Always found it quaint how footballers wages always talked of in "£ per week" terms........almost like they are paid in cash on a Friday lunch time!!! (I remember pay day at Rists!)...
Anyone know how thay are paid? do they invoice clubs for services as would any contractor ? are they set up as Ltd companies etc etc....??
I would guess they operate in the most tax efficient way and pay corp tax rather than 40 odd percent on a shed load??

John Arne Riise's payslip - to give you an idea I particularly like the "points bonus" and "Champions League" extras - on top of the £30000 per week.

Tell me about it! And sponsorship and endorsements on top!!
What a ridiculous industry though - take McClaren with the England job for example, you do a crap job, get sacked and get a payoff of millions! If only it was like that for the rest of us!!!!

Well its like that at the top of the corporate structure. All the fat cats taking bonuses for fucking things up - surely the whole idea behind a bonus is that it is performance related?
The banking world has gone fucking crazy in the last few years and at the end of the day the muppet tax payer foots the bill. We need a revolution!!

I do think that some of the people in banks should have been sacked for gross incompetence, and possibly gone to jail - that said, the regulatory regime was sufficiently slack that no-one even considered the possibility of national/international meltdown until it was too late.
I am amazed that JAR pays so much tax but perhaps it's inevitable. A lot of overseas players do have the Ltd company in a tax haven, but are then restricted to being in England for only 108 days (nights?) a year, or something like.

There's also Isle of Wight based registered 'loan' type companies that take all your invoiced amount, pay you a small salary and give you the rest in loans, that are written off at the end of the year. You end up paying a tiny amount of tax.

I do think that some of the people in banks should have been sacked for gross incompetence, and possibly gone to jail - that said, the regulatory regime was sufficiently slack that no-one even considered the possibility of national/international meltdown until it was too late. You are right - however unpalatable and deplorable the banks' activities have been, they have only taken advantage of the lax regulation that the Government, and more accurately. Gordon Brown has presided over ever since NuLab came to power. It was he who disenfanchised the Bank of England and said, you can just look after inflation via interest rate manipulation - end of. We will set up the FSA and staff it full of our reletively inexperienced flunkies, and between them and the Treasury we have the perfect storm and triumverate of failure with each not quite knowing what the other was doing / responsible for.. It was always waiting to happen. Thsi of course not the only reason, BUT it is a fact certain that this depression (as this is what it WILL become) could have been avoided to a large extent, if the Government had chosen to do something about crazy levels of personal debt (UK worst in the world per head) and stupid house price inflation..... ...and the continued rise in Footy related inflation (transfers / wages / ticket prices etc) will probably lead to a similar implosion....!!

Seem to remember the rumour of why Salif didn't sign (2nd time around) for so long when 'injured' was that he could remain below the tax threshold of 108 days. Not wishing to put 2 + 2 together, but has anybody noticed that he goes to Monaco for his 'treatment' every couple of months when he gets injured.
I'm pretty sure that Arsenal had a team of accountants to ensure their foreign stars were looked after with regards to their taxation and how they were paid. (note this was post-George Graham and his brown envelopes!)
