I'm currently trying to list all the Stoke away games i've been to.
We played at Bournemouth in a pre season friendly in 1979. I was quite sure that we lost 2-1 but a mate who has an encyclopaedia of Stoke City tells me they show it as a 2-1 win.
I'm wondering if they've got it wrong. Anyone else at that game ?

Was that the match where Garth Crookes missed a penalty and the ball ended up out of the ground landing somewhere near Poole harbour by the way it was travelling. The first of a three match tour taking in Portsmouth & Reading I think. Oh yeah 2-1 defeat I think.

Dont remember too much about the game to be honest.
i spent 90% of the game chatting up a female copper who was absolutely drop dead gorgeous
there was only about 50 stokies there if my memory serves me well.
shocking, boring game imho

Lost 2-1, I was there with a couple of Jock mates from the Navy, right impressed they were with Stoke We went from there (stopped off in Stoke a couple of days) to their place in Dundee and ended up going to watch Forfar play Dundee Utd. Top ground ;D

went..but can't remember much of the game..three of us went down then onto Portsmouth for the 2nd game ( Reading went home then back down again for that one )
Dossed in my mates Cortina coupe after his brother decided to come with us at the last minute, then on the way declared he didn't have the money for digs..so like a bunch of lemons we all decided it'd be a good idea to doss in the car..without even asking around for prices...
Least i got the back seat

I was going to post separately about the Reading Away friendly 1979/80 also.
Again my memory tells me that it was a 3-3 draw but my mate's "Encyclopaedia of Stoke City" lists it as a 3-2 win for us.
I remember sitting in the wooden seats of the stand at Elm Park together with not too many others. John Bayley (Zigger) was there.
Can anybody confirm the score ?
