Phil has a query.
Jeff, re the Stoke - Man City game - you seem to have missed Micah Richards push on Griffin before the defender dived in. You also missed that Shaun Wright Phillips should have been sent off for kicking Rory Delap, and you also missed that Elano should have gone for dissenting to the ref for about 5 minutes late on!
Just as well you gave up eh?
steve has a query
Jeff,
Your thoughts on Sean Wright Philips kick on Saturday that went unnoticed? Surely a sending office offence?
Bernard has a query.
Jeff, if you think the brush of legs between Andy Griffin and the guy from Manchester City was a penalty then this 67 year old just despairs for the state of refereeing in this country. What a pity you had no comment about the Shaun Wright Phillips kick on Rory Delap after the incident. I do not condone the sending off but it should have also been the same for Phillips. But then again you probably did not see that just as Mr Atkinson did not. Rant over.

Comment about stoke, injustice was that SWP did not get red carded as well!!!!! Typical ref, has been, only sees the things you/they want to.
Jack Knight has a query
Hello Jeff,
I am a Stoke City fan, whilst I agree with the referee's decision about Delap being sent off, I was appalled that Wright Phillips was not penalised for his original two footed tackle and a lash out at Delap. What are your opinions on this?
Reply:- having upset a fair few of you I thought I would reply to all of your queries at once.
First of all, you are entitled to your opinions as I am to mine. Micah Richards and Griffin came together, that happens it is a contact sport, but Griffin then played the man and not the ball with his attempted tackle, penalty!!!
You have all had me over the coals for not mentioning SWP, in my Villain of the week column I mentioned his petulant kick, which severe or not was a sending off offence, his original tackle though was hard and but fair. I only saw highlights of the game so was not privy to everything that went on over 90 minutes, great result and great performance though, even if you were hanging on a bit at the end. I wish the Boro had the same passion and that gives you an good chance of avoiding the drop.
Best wishes
Jeff

How can SWP's tackle be ''hard but fair'' but when a player goes in with ''intent'' ie. flying in, but makes no contact, it's punished? I don't see the difference.

If he only saw the highlights of the game, presumably MoTD, then he wouldn;t have had the chance to have a second look at swp's tackle, because they didn't really show it, if he had done he'd have seen that swp's is nowhere near the ball with his original tackle, and it was his trailing leg that got the ball, not his front leg, which totally missed the ball.

IMO we were lucky that the Richards incident wasn't punished with a penalty.
If it happens anywhere else on the pitch it's a a free kick so for me it's a pen.
Seen 'em given for a lot less.

Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association.
The charge relates to an incident involving Rory Delap in the first half of Man City's 1-0 defeat against Stoke on Saturday.
No action was taken at the time as referee Martin Atkinson did not see what happened, but video footage has now been studied.
Atkinson has informed the FA that he would have sent Wright-Phillips off if he had seen the incident.
Delap was shown a red card in the first half at the Britannia Stadium for a foul on Wright-Phillips but Stoke emerged 1-0 winners thanks to James Beattie's header on 45 minutes.
Wright-Phillips has until 6pm on Thursday to admit or deny the charge, while a Regulatory Commission will hear the case on Friday.

Get in! About bloody time.
Hope that justice is dispensed. Sounds like Atkinson has backed us up on the incident even though he "didn't see it!!!!"

Fair play to Mr Winter, i asked one of the questions and was very impressed that he did actually respond.
I tend to agree that it was a peno' and felt that the ref fortunately for us the "11th" men on the day bottled it. Equally should have been 10 v 10.

Jeff Winter was a shite referee. He strutted around the pitch as though everybody was there to see him. Now he's retired he's having his ego stroked by people e-mailing him to argue the toss about the drivel he's now spouting.
If everybody ignored him he'd eventually go away!!

I heard that twat Ian Shite talking about the tackle and saying how SWP is such a fair player and it was a fair tackle and that what Rory did was just what he does namely kick people. He mentioned how Walcott is still out because of Rory!! Ian, just a small point on Walcott; it's his other shoulder that's keeping him out you thick fucker!!

Has anyone e-mailed this picture to Ian Gobshight? Awful tackle, but you can only see how bad it is in slow-motion. As for his comments on the Walcott challenge, they really aren't worthy of a response. It was about the most non-malicious challenge you'll ever see.

Jeff Winter Percyfilth has a query. Just where do you get your specs Jeff?? Micah Richards fell over twopaces after Griffin touched him.pen you say; Much the same as Fuller went down after he was touched v Hull. Fuller dive , no pen you say ;yet Richards did the same as Taylor for Newcastle, no pen you say. Which is it Jeff? Delap volleys the ball at SWP ...Red Card, Gerrard volleys the ball at Bosingwa.....Nothing. Wilkinson tackles Ronaldo ...red card ,Ronaldo kicks Wilkinson ...nothing .SWP kicks Delap..nothing ...Rooney elbows Faye...nothing ,Bosingwa kicks Benayoun between the shoulder blades....nothing. Lampards tackle gets red card , SWP tackle on Eherington over the ball ...nothing, Gerrard over the ball v Chelsea nothing...Faye tackle v BORO ...Red card. Inconsistent to say the least, much as your view of the Richards incident. Should have gone to Specsavers Jeff. And take Riley, Styles et al with you. Reply:- You make a lot of sense in your comments despite a rather obvious Stoke City bias. There will always be inconsistency because no two incidents are exactly the same and are not seen the same, that is unfortunate but a fact of life. We hear managers each week who watch the same game and see incidents completely differently,so why should Refs be different!!!!
You are entitled to your opinion, even through "Delilah eyes" , but Griffin's contact was illegal. I cannot and will support the indefensible decisions that are made but sometimes the decisions they make against your team are actually correct. Good luck in the fight against relegation as long as you don't send Boro down!!
Best wishes
Jeff
