someone up there wants us to stay up.
Great honour to play for your country at any level, but to sound like some top 4 bosses, we could do without him getting injured elswhere at the moment.
Englands loss, Stokes gain.
Not sure how old he is tbh but didnt carl beeston play on after the age of 21 in the u21 team?

You have to be 21 or under at the start of a major tournament I think. Shawcross is still 21 I'm sure. That's why you can play until 23 in some cases.
Not sure when the current one starts/started etc

for sure, at the rate he is going then possibly with 2 or 3 years. Maybe sooner if some of the more regular center halfs get injured.

No the qualifiers/finals etc last 2 years-that's why you can play until 23. Same as the World Cup etc
If you are 21 when they start then you are eligible to play throughout that particular tournament until the final.

This is a bit off topic but wasn't there some weird rule allowing a couple of over-age players at one point?

This is a bit off topic but wasn't there some weird rule allowing a couple of over-age players at one point? you might be thinking of the Olympics? All under 23, with 2 or maybe 3 over age players allowed.

There was Sal yes- a while back now, I remember Pierre Littbarski playing for W Germany v England and he was about 47. Not even German either. He played for the senior team the following night and set up 2 goals as well. Rule was done away with around the early 1980s
Think you were allowed 2 with minimal caps or something like that

Shawcross has the ability to play for the full squad in the next year or two, let's hope he fulfils that with Stoke. Though, sadly as someone else says, whilst he is with us that probably won't happen. I think Mark Chamberlain was the last Stokie to break into the full squad and that was only because you couldn't ignore him at the time as he was on fire back then.

and mancienne becuase he hasn't played a game since he left wolves so why is he suddenly i9n the england squad ahead of ryan who has been immense this season ?
probably becuase he plays for stoke so pearce doesn't take any notice.

Come on guys, a few weeks ago there wasn't too many Stokies who wanted him our line up never mind for England!! He's come on a storm in the last few weeks but the selectors probably never get to see him live and our one win in god knows how many won't sell him on paper. It's a shame for him but it's their loss, our gain.
