Away from home he says, anyone have any ideas what he may be thinking or will he stick to having 10 men in our own half and hoofing it to the lone striker?

People seem to think we will be more attacking. I suspected we would go 5 in midflield, but given yesterdays signings I could well be way off the mark. You don't sign another striker and then go one up front for half of the remaining games.
Do you?

Maybe a 4-3-3/4-5-1, with Etherington and Camara out wide, supporting Beattie - with 3 narrow central midfielders? news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7860417.stm"We've kept the same system and shape away as we've been using at home"
"But, looking at it, we may have to be a little stronger through the middle of the pitch, I've been thinking about it for a while now, but having had such a good performance at Chelsea, I didn't think it was right to change coming off the back of that, going into Spurs"
"But there'll come a time where I'll think 'yeah, we'll have a change' "

i think he will cchange his tic tacs spidey, or at least i think he will now be able to add to his tic tacs. Now he has Etherington and liam back and a RB in pugh who seems to like to attack, he has more options.
Now he has a number of quality strikers to choose from
Now he has the opportunity to use mamma to hold it up if we are winning or have mamma up with fuller, beattie and whoever if we are chasing the game.
he could only work with what he had before, now however, he has lots of options, lots of strikers with different strengths and creativity in the middle

That's typical. Write out a response then get interrupted for 5 minutes before you can hit send.
What FullerMagic said.
I'd stick all the remotely quick players on myself. All 3 of them.

It's always risky trying something new, but then again, with no win away from home all season, it's probably time to take some risks and make ourselves hard to beat away, we've been leaking goals left right and centre away from home, I think the midfield is our problem away, all to often we get over run, I'd try this.
4-1-4-1
------------------------------------sorro------------------------------------- wilko--------------------s'cross---------------AbFaye---------------Griff ----------------------------------AmFaye---------------------------------- Camara----------Lawrence--------------------Whelen----------Ethers ----------------------------------Beattie------------------------------------
I am right in thinking Camara has played out wide before ??? ordinarily I wouldn't suggest him out wide, but as we need to try something different, who else is there ?

Maybe Kelly and Higgy at full-back in the longer-term?

I like that team, Serps. Maybe Kelly and Higgy at full-back in the longer-term? Yup, I picked that team based on the assumption Higgy will be out and Kelly not signed, or even if he does sign he might not be thrown straight in. I think Pulis might go 5-3-2 though, didn't we end up with 5 at the back Vs Man city right at the end ? he might have been testing it out then ? we all know any change Pulis makes is going to make us more defensive so no need to suggest 4-3-3 ;D -----------------Sorro---------------- -----Sonko---S,cross---AbFaye---- Wilko----------------------------Griff Lawrence----AmFaye-------Ethers --------Beattie-----Camara--------

Serps, I think if you picked those players for pulis to put into a side it would come out with the minor change of leaving whelan and lawro further back:
DEEEEFFFFEEEEENNNNNCCCCCEEE
Lawrence Faye Whelan
Camara Ethers Beattie
I think he'd probably play pugh or olofinjana (or diao) in that inside right position instead of lawrence though.. or maybe play lawrence on the right instead of camara.

I'm hoping... Tone's been telling the truth about playing to the players you've got, if he's got the courage of his convictions away as well as at home our away form should be about to change radically. We'll see... but a winnable game at Sunderland would be a great place to start.

"But there'll come a time where I'll think 'yeah, we'll have a change' "I can't tell you how pleased I am to read those quotes, that really has made my day ... finally Tone! I can understand the call for 4-5-1 away from home, but in all honesty we've been playing pretty much like that at times anyway, as the man in the 'hole' invariably ended up becoming the fifth man in midfield. I really can't see Pulis starting Camara, Lawrence and Etherington in the same midfield whoever we play. Pulis talks about being stronger in the middle of the pitch and playing differently to how we play at home. This is a pretty radical suggestion, but is there any chance he could be thinking of playing with an absolute rock solid central midfield with all offensive play coming down the flanks? Maybe somet like this: Kelly-----Shawcross----Higgy------Pugh Lawrence---Faye-----Faye----Etherington ----------Fuller------Beatttie--------

Paul, but the "fifth midfielder" has been a striker, not a proper midfielder, and I think he's been playing in the wrong hole, the hole should be behind the midfield imo, not in front of it, a bit like the way Chelsea play, this way the two central midfielders can play the "in yer face" closing down game, and have a player in behind him, so if he gets beat there's still another midfielder to back you up.
Beattie played the lone striker role at Sheff Utd didn't he ? so it wouldn't be anything new to him.

Yep that's a really good point Serps. However I can't help feeling that it just hasn't worked with us packing the midfield and trying to keep it tight when we've been away from home. In these last few games I think we've got to make the home teams worry about us offensively. A complete reverse in Pulis' ideology if you will. Rather than trying to hold on and nick one late, go out to try and nick one early and then maybe hold on for the rest of the game (was last Saturday a blue print?). If we do go down early, then at least we've got players already on the pitch who can give us a chance of getting back into the game. However if we get a lead, take a striker off and then put ten men behind the ball.

That "fifth midfielder/striker" isn't much good to the midfield when the other team is counter attacking, this is where we've slipped up quite a lot on our travels, on the bigger pitches quicker teams than us can exploit the space when teams counter attack us, a anchor in midfield could help stop counter attacks, I just think we need more bodies in midfield.
Get the ball up to Beattie, who can hold the ball up, and then bomb some midfielders (lawrence/Camara/Etherington) around him when we attack

would be more than happy never to see griffin again, i was shitting it when he came on against citeh. more than happy to see pugh play LB. as for serp's team, if we were to play a midfielder in front of the back i could see that role going to whelan, seem to remember him playing that role before for ROI, allbeit against poor opposision.

I think now, with having 2 decent wide players, what we should be doing is playing with 2 defencive minded centeral midfielders. 2 out of amdy salif whelan oli delap...get them to pick the ball up and spread it wide. and get the wide players get balls into the box,
