Sent this link my Villa mate and this is what he replied.
Cheers for that mate, nice to know people can put their differences aside to acknowledge the passing of a good bloke. Birchy was a large part of my early Villa-following career; I was there the night he showed Lothar Matthaus up against Inter Milan, and a few more besides, and he's on a lot of videos my grandad left me after he died (all football ones, before you go off on a wierd tangent!) I can't claim to have known him well but I went to watch Villa Old Stars about a year and a half ago and Birchy scored a hat-trick. I got his autograph after the game and shook his hand and he just seemed like a down-to-earth bloke with an ear for everyone who wanted a chat. I was wearing me Villa hat today 'cos it's been snowing like a bitch in Walsall and a couple of people stopped me in the street to commiserate. Just goes to show that it doesn't matter who you support, it's just a sad bit of news for a bloke that young to die. I was pretty gutted about it at work, I must say. Thanks again for passing that on
R.I.P

R I P Paul Birch. My one memory of him is when I went to Villa Park ( I was a photographer's runner ) v Port Vale in the cup. He scored 2 free kicks, putting one in each top corner. Villa won 6-0.
