Obviously Beattie but with who Fuller - get rid now, his body language yesterday was shocking. Given the 'slapping' incident I fully expected Ric to give his all yesterday, the only negative of the day for me. Kitson - would be a different proposition now that we've got Ethers and could link up well with Beattie. Mama - when he's fit, he would be my choice, can see him and Beattie doing well together. A N Other - Stoke could shock us tomorrow on the last fay of the window. Cresswell - Please no

Beattie with a five man midfield , ric on the bench for first hour. We need to tighten up away and get some points

if camara came he could go wide right, ethers wide left and a solid central three, then we could break with pace

I would go 4 4 2 not a 5 man midfield I agree with you Lightwood. We need to play with 4-4-2 as we've seen it before when we've got virtually everyone behind the ball and then we invite the pressure onto us. Imo, the formation can't really be blamed for our crap away record, it's just down to the performance and since we're struggling to score away from home as it is, why go for a more defensive option away? If we play how we do at home by pressurising and attacking them instead of sitting back like we have done in the majority of away games then I reckon we'd be more successful. We need to be positive away from home instead of appearing negative. Therefore, I'd like to see beattie and Kitson upfront with Etherington and Lawrence on the wings (it's about time Lawrence got his time to shine again although we all know that Cresswell's going to start instead). I think Fuller should start on teh bench as his attitude needs a bit of a shake up imo

I can't see Kitson starting, particularly away. It's difficult to think of a forward he's ahead of in the pecking order. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7860417.stm" "We've kept the same system and shape away as we've been using at home"
"But, looking at it, we may have to be a little stronger through the middle of the pitch, I've been thinking about it for a while now, but having had such a good performance at Chelsea, I didn't think it was right to change coming off the back of that, going into Spurs"
"But there'll come a time where I'll think 'yeah, we'll have a change' "

i like the style and flair that Fuller gives Stoke. I hate his attitude !! I would give him one last talking to, and advise him that unless his attitude changes he is benched for good or transferred to Vale ;D

The main problem that we have away is that we are not good enough in the centre of midfield both in terms of protecting the defence and being able to keep the ball, so as long as we could break with pace to support the striker it could work, problem at the moement is we have ethers on the left but nobody on the right unless he brings lawrence back, whelan fay and pugh would be quite solid in the centre and would close the opposition down better than we have been, worth a try

It'll definitely be 4-5-1 because you just know this will be the ideal opportunity to squeeze in Cresswell again!
And before anyone says "Cressy did alright when he came on yesterday" have a look at a recording of the 2nd half. He only touched the ball about 5 times in total (and nothing come of them touches anyway). We beat them with 9 men, never mind 10!

I would hope that we have a new central midfielder for next week so I would expect to see him pack the midfield and go with:
Liam Whelan Faye A N Other Ethers.
Long term I see no reason why we shouldn't expect RIc to partner Beattie. I didn't see a lot wrong with Ric's efforts yesterday. We didn't much decent possession when he was on and lets not forget he also had a knock which resluted in stitches. On the evidence of Spurs away and yesterday Ric still has plenty to offer us.

Cressy played his part in the win, and job done. He's a real 100%er and never deserves any personal criticism But it was still the same maximum effort, minimum effectiveness Cresswell performance we know and love. It's one thing to run around like a Duracell bunny (and credit to him for it), but to what end? He didn't really offer any effective support to Wilko (ghosted past at will) and offered no spark on the break. I still don't understand while LL wasn't the preferred option. He's (nearly) as willing a worker as Cresswell, and offers infinitely more quality on te ball. His ability to keep the ball and offer something on the break would surely hav been a lot more useful than Cressy's toil.
