If you believe all you read, we have been linked with a fair few players in recent weeks. In my opinion, we need to sort out the full back areas- especially the right side. A creative central midfielder would also be much appreciated as too many games are bypassing Whelan. This is a 'small' list of the players who have been linked with us recently... Full back: Jean Calve Nicky Shorey Chris Riggott Centre back: Chris Riggott Sami Hyypia Central midfield: Joe Ledley Jason Koumas Modeste M'Bami Gary O'Neil Widemen: Tommy Smith Chris Taylor Strikers: Henri Camara Marlon Harewood Aruna Dindane David Healy David McGoldrick Razak Omotoyossi Take your pick lads (I'm sure there are some obvious names I have missed out) Pulis bought too much crap in the summer. Look at who wasn't involved on Tuesday: Olofinjana, Tonge, Soares, Davies and Kitson didn't get off the bench. That's the best part of £15 million wasted. This is the most testing couple of days in Mr Pulis' career- make the right signings and you will keep us up, play your cards wrong and it will be curtains. I have faith- make the right move Tone.

Nicky Shorey would be a great signing and give us balance at left back. Higgy could then move inside, or at least be competition with Ab Faye and Ryan (who I thought was top draw against Spurs – the only positive from the game). I wouldn’t be overly disappointed if we didn’t bring in a RB as Griff has been great all season and we’ve yet to see how Davies can do there. As long as we bring in a LB I don’t think another CB is required either as Higgy will add competition.
A creative CM is a must, I have no idea if this M’bami guy is that or not. Someone (dare I say it) in the Bullard mould would be great. Of the players we’ve been linked with I’d love us to get Koumas, I think it’s what we are crying out for in the middle of the park. Not overly fussed about adding another forward as we’ve got Mama coming back along with Beats, Kits and Ric. Of the one’s we’ve been linked with though I’d go for Camara probably. He’s unpredictable but a top player on his day and has the important quality we require, pace.

Nicky Shorey at full back for me. Am I the only one that thinks we need a left back over a right back though?? We currently have 3 players that can play at right back, Wilko, Griff & Davies. At left back we only have Higgy and then Griff (which would leave one less on the right).
I'd see the rest of the money go on a decent attacking midfielder, thats our biggest need at the moment. So probably Ledley (but not at 7 million!!) followed by Koumas, then O'Neil, then M'bia in order of preference.

I'd take Riggott and Shorey and either Koumas or Ledley, of the ones playing in the UK. I wouldn't mind one of Camara or Dindane but not essential.

One full-back and one central midfielder with a modicum of ball-playing ability.

Personally I wouldn't sign Riggott. I think we need a proper full-back, at ease with the ball, who can offer something going forward.
And if we buy the proper LB we've been crying out for, the need for CB cover goes out of the window as Higgy could step up as needed.

Well Higgy is fine so unless we can pick 3 it would be Koumas & Riggott. Not inspired by Riggott but haven't heard any other RB's mentioned and he's better than we have. So ....
Koumas Riggott Shorey
in that order of priority.

Can we really see Pulis, of all people, trusting Koumas to play central midfield for him though?
I think he's got bundles of talent, but I just can't see that in a million years. I'd love to see it but it just seems a bit fanciful.

agree, not much point signing anothe square peg in Riggott, we need someone who has played fullback all his life who doesn't just lump the ball forward.
I'd go for Shorey, prem experience, and even though he hasn't got great reviews at Villa he would still do an excellent job for us, remember where Villa are in the league and where we are.
We deffinately need a creative CM too, look at the goal against Spurs, Matty came into the middle and made a peach of a pass, imagine if we had someone capable of doing that in CM, we'd double our threat. We need to keep the more far more that we have been.
Please Pulis, don't let all the hard work in getting to the Prem be wasted by not taking the opportunity with both hands, i'd much rather go down fighting than setting up all negative and not giving it a go!!

As good as Riggott was for us last season, I don't particularly want him as we know that he would be played out of position (at right back).
I think Nicky Shorey would be a tremendous signing and would be a sign to our rivals that we mean business. At right back, I suppose there is also Steve Finnan to add to that list- providing he is fit, then he would be a great short term acquisition.
For the centre of midfield, I'd pick Koumas but Wigan could well be reluctant to sell having already lost Palacios (I can't see Watson pulling up too many trees).

Another option TP should consider is putting Laim into central midfield (where he HAS played before) and bringing in a right winger. If he can't get the central midfielder he wants then it is a valid option.

No need to sign Riggott, we’ve already got plenty of options in the middle and don’t even begin to say we should sign him as RB. Get Shorey in and add Higgy as competition for Ryan and AB Faye.
If we got Shorey and Koumas I’d be more than happy.

Equally John, Delap's favoured position is in the centre of midfield and, although he isn't particularly creative, can you see TP dropping him?

Two proper full backs and a central midfielder who can a) get over the halfway line and b) consistently pass to a player in a red and white shirt (or translucent, vomity, jaundice yellow when we go to Sunderland).
I suspect though we'll get a centre half to play at right back and at least one enormous black gentleman.

James, Delap is a defensive midfielder and usually looks good there. Personally I wish TP had taken the chance to give Delap a run out at right back (where he has also played before) - I suspect he would be better than Wilko, Davies or Griff in that position. OK, not a classical attacking right back but certainly more creative than Wilko who appears to be first choice at present - at least he can pass! Perhaps not a long term solution but it would be one less signing to make.

My sentiments too. Delap is a good option at RB. I think Griffin has been outstanding this season and getting back towards something which resembles his best but Delap is a more than able deputiser (is that a word? No, I didn’t think so!) and a better option than Wilko for me.

Yes, I could see the refs putting an extra 20 mins on the game so Delap could run up every time for a long throw. You know I've heard you bang on about Delap at right back before, but clearly TP doesn't rate him there, and to be honest I reckon it would be a fucking waste. How many times have you actually seen Delap play right back to say he would be a good option, or a better option than Wilko?

I haven't seen him play at right back for Stoke but I have seen him (on TV) play many times there for Southampton and a few times for Derby. I think at Southampton he probably played at right back as much as he did in midfield.

Although he’s never done it for us, Delap has played at RB for his previous clubs so it’s not exactly alien to him. He’s good in the tackle (insert pun here), can take the ball forward and his passing is decent – all of which makes him a better option that Wilko IMO.

RVD, I don't think Southampton fans rated him as highly as we do - in either position. So that doesn't really prove much one way or the other.
Then again they didn't rate Fuller - look where they are now - bet they wish they could have them both back! ;D
