Realistically who have we got that can dictate a game like Modric did last night? I look at our midfield "collection" and I just don't get any inspiration. If ever we were crying out for just one outstanding signing before Monday 5pm, it is for a player who can inspire the rest of the team with sheer class, quality and skill. (Just like Alan Hudson did all those years ago)

Shit midfielder? Diao, Faye, Whelan, Seyi-take Your pick! agreed. last night was the only time i've ever seen modric do anything. if you're question is "who can play really well for one game every season" then what answer do i want?

Miff, don't like Beckham but that's exactly the sort of big name inspiration we need.

Bayern/ Means. So who's our one match centre midfield inspiration? Noone I've seen this season. Just match after match mediocrity. We have a class centre half (maybe even two) and maybe even two class forwards (Cresswell and Pericard, sorry just joking), We just need a midfield general.

As for Modric, I haven't seen him inspire Spurs much with his "sheer class, quality and skill" on any other occaision this season, have you? One decent game does not a great player make. We can all dream of signing a Hudson, a Best, or a Ronaldo, but we fucking Stoke City, not Real Madrid.

Stateside, if we hadn't peed £15 million (or whatever the figure is for our bench warmers Kitson, Oli, Soares, Tonge, etc. )down the drain on mediocrity, what could we have had????? By the way, from memory, Hudson cost us £240,000 at a time when million pound players were becoming common place.

Means, Depth is fine if they get a game and they win you games, I don't recall much of our "depth" winning us many games.

Amdy Faye and Whelan are key??? What to? At best average to good run of the mill Championship players. They aren't going to dictate games and win us desperately needed Premiership points and status.

By the way, from memory, Hudson cost us £240,000 at a time when million pound players were becoming common place. So if Man City are having 100 million bids turned down for world class midfielders, your 240k would equate to about 24 million squid. There is also the slight problem of convincing a "world class" midfield creator that Stoke is the place to be. Half a season in the Premier league and a long, hard relegation scrap are probably not the most appealing of scenarios for a budding young midfield genius. And you are right, we could have pissed the money we did have on one luxury player, but the chances are he would be fucking off back to Brazil at the first mention of championship football, leaving us with a massive wage bill and a squad so thin it would make Victoria Beckham look like a pie eating munter (copyright, RAF, before he pisses down his leg at someone using one of his "inventions")
