I'm not blaming the referee tonight for the result, but I think we can agree that he gave a lot of nothing decisions against both sides for minor offences bordering on nothing. It's resulting in football being reduced to a game for individuals and where tackling and physical strength are being slowly eradicated. So where do we start with fixing it?
For one, let's stop the referee protecting players. It's a team game and it should be the job of a player's team-mates to look after him.
Sliding tackles are good. Honestly! The way Ronaldo threw his arms around at the referee every time he got tackled, you'd thing that a good sliding tackle was a war crime. Utter nonsense.
Arguing with a referee - unless it's the captain, straight yellow card. No fuss or leniency, just a yellow card.
Stop giving fouls every time a goalkeeper falls over. Somebody attacking a cross should be allowed to stand their ground or follow the line of the ball. If the goalkeeper isn't strong enough or misjudges it, why should it be a foul?
Every match should be reviewed and divers punished with a 3 match ban and 70% of that week's wage being given to charity.
