As Lou has written in Why Delilah, the winter sun in Dubai (av.temp this week 22'C) is nice if you can afford it...and for T.P. its just like going to Austria.
Obviously Mr.Coates has been there before ,so it may well be on his recommendation.
What this does however is raise the profile of the club, not just among players, but also helps to put Stoke on the radar in the host country.
According to Wiki, P.C is the 25th richest man in Britain, but cash flow must be bloody difficult at this moment in time.Thankfully SCFC is fairly solvent.
UAE is cash rich, and Dubai has also been developing horse racing, amongst other things.I don't know how Muslims square the issue of betting-but hopefully P.C.will be working behind the scenes?
What if,(considering Stoke has a significant Muslim community), Coates was/is able to develop business interests in the Middle East on the back of these Dubai activities -and this led to Arab investment ( Arab brothers/Princes are a competitive lot),would we welcome it?

Any investment is welcome I would suggest, although getting our own resident ethnic minorities through the gates of the Britannia is about as difficult as getting me to sing "Theres only one Maggie Thatcher..."

You are right Clacton. There are hidden motives behind this trip but at least with the game on Thursday it should be self financing

That's a very good post. I work in an area where we look for investors. There are lot's of people right now in Dubai looking to put their piles of money somewhere, i know this for a fact ! Could be something in it, you never ever know !

In reality any new investment would be welcome and certainly help to establish the club in the Premiership whether it’s Arab money or from up the road. There’s no doubt it has to be sensible money though, it’s fine having the riches of Man City but the Kaka saga has made them look ridiculous to the football world.
I would hope if such an investor came along we would go down the building road that Villa have over the last few years, bringing in good players who they could not only afford but who they could actually persuade to sign and build a side capable of competing with the best without making themselves look immoral or totally ridiculous, if you look at Man City since all the publicity and ballyhoo of being the richest club in the world it’s totally thrown their form into the toilet.
That kind of money to burn brings it’s own problems expectation levels are raised and the desire of the supporters to sign every decent player available and the pressure on every player and manager to perform immediacy can bring it’s own problems. We would all love to have riches to spend but if we get them I just hope the club builds solid foundations and not built on attempting to sign anyone for any amount of money simply for publicity. The rest of football is laughing their socks off at Man City and I would hate that to be us.

Investment would be fine but I wouldn't be happy if some obscenely rich arab were to try to take over the club. As someone mentioned on an earlier thread why would you want be a rich mans plaything? Sooner or later they'll get bored with their new toy. Much prefer Coates who is a lifelong fan and has the club at heart.

there is no money in Dubai at the moment... they are as fucked as the rest of the world, and they are going cap in hand to Abu Dhabi on a regular basis to bail them out... Dubai built its house of sand on easy credit backed by rising real estate values... its all come crashing down.
RAK (where the team are) have nothing, neither do any of the other emirates apart from Abu Dhabi, and we know where their money is.
The only other countries with cash to spare round here are Qatar and Oman.... cant see them investing in us.

One or two muslim players in the squad now I would guess - can there be any premiership teams with more? Perhaps a shrewd move to bring in some middle eastern investors?
