they should put a full size footy pitch on there and use it for sunday league with a bit of terracing where the old boothen was all though it would be a new pitch it would feel amazing to play on it.

The bloke is just highlighting something most of us have been thinking for years. The place is an utter dump now and has been allowed to fester for ten years. Of course he won't get squatter's rights. At least he's protesting, and in a good cause too. Let the bloke have his moment of protest and take it in good humour. Characters are few and far between in these days of prols following the party line.
Viva la Revolution!

How come Mowdem have owned the land for so long, and yet the haven't even started building yet? ???

Don't get me going on this one - this is THE CLASSIC EXAMPLE of how hopelessly run S.O.T is.
No marker for the beloved Victoria ground - no preserved centre circle with a statue or a plaque, no footpath where fans can walk - reflect, reminisce - nothing to mark one of the oldest grounds occupied by one of the founding fathers of the football league
No marker - shameful - absolutely terrible - how shabby, how 'no mark', shame on you - STOKE UPON TRENT !

Digraceful
The fact that nothing has been done with the site that is. The bloke may be a nutter be at least he has principles and as has been said, is raising this as an issue.
The council have spent money building all sorts of shit around Stoke - Check out those stupid Silver statues (theres one at the back of the warehouse when you walk up towards the bridge to the Brit) - Spend the fucking money on something uselful by buying that land back and doing something with it !
The people who think he deserves some sort of kicking are pathetic !

Don't shoot me down here but maybe this bloke is just trying to highlight the fact that this land has not been developed for over a decade, If the owners wanted the land then why the fuck don't they something with it, I'm sure it's not too great for the local residents seeing a waste land from their window. This fucking useless council should be pressing the owners to get it developed You have a point there, however i suspect the developer has been given the royal run around by a typically inept council failing to make suitable planning decisions. Didn't modwen want to originally put a supermarket on it? The council wouldn't let them and hey presto they spend ages fighting about it. Eventually decide to put houses on it and now the market is fooked. Can't see what would have been wrong with a supermarket myself. They eventually allow one not 300 yards away.Couldn't make it up i tell ya. ??? This was when Stoke owned the ground, Asda wanted to build on the training ground and give us £100k a year rent, when£100k a year meant something to a football club, but the council had other ideas, well no idea really.

Some people will call Dave a Man of Principle..a colourful character who lightens up our monochrome world.. Others might think he's got 'Mental Health Issues' and needs to see a Community Psychiatric Nurse.. Some say that St Modwen 'own' the land..and ignore the History and Social-Anthropological significance of what used to take place every Saturday afternoon and how that forged (over 100 years) current Stoke fans self-identity and Historical Reference Points... To simply use St Modwens financial ownership of the land as an excuse to ignore all that culture and history and identity..not just of Stoke fans..but of the people of Stoke-on-Trent...shows how completely DIVORCED this Council is..to the people it is set up to serve... And the reason for that is that most 'senior-managers' in Stoke on Trent City Council have been brought in from outside of this City..and have absolutely no idea as to what the people of Stoke on Trent are about... They would prefer to spend tax-payers money on 'Cultural-Quarters' signs and pathetic chunks of metal welded together all over the City..which they laughingly describe as 'Sculpture'..something that McGuiness's scrapyard would be ashamed of....rather than spend our money on the Old Vic wasteground..and do something creative with it that we all want...like a park/childrens play-area/museum/etc...and if they knew the first thing about us Stokies they wouldn't need to be told that... So pay St Modwen off...and if you've forgoten how..remember how you did it when Stan Clarke (RIP) was awarded the contract to build The Brittania Stadium (allegedly)...and 'reclaim' OUR land... So..er...well-done Dave Barker...

wizzard, you have a knack of hitting the proverbial nail firmly on the head. You should write a book. 'How NOT to Run a Council'. It would be a best seller. It would give you summat to do while you're idling your time away. OS.

One thing the city doesn’t need as another fucking supermarket!
Although the ground holds many memories for all in stoke, how many of you actually go past there apart from on the 500? its been a dump for the last 10+ years, a park would be a fantastic idea with a footy area and some sort of commemoration to the old vic and the players that served there, there’s enough houses and flats not being lived in already

Thanks Oldstokie...I'll put that in the compliment-box...next to the Brownie-Point you gave me a few weeks ago... 'Red-Dave' may/may not have a screw loose..but he is making a valid-point..the Old Vic site is as important to us as the Pyramids were to the Egyptians...and it would be a crime simply to turn it into yet another housing-estate... In any other City/Culture people would be complaining vociferously about part of their self-identity and social-roots being turned into 'new-builds' but in Stoke people just 'accept their lot'..'There's nothing you can do etc etc'...a terrible fatalistic approach to life... Thank God for Dave..an Island of Hope in a Sea of Apathy...and lets hope others go and join him and generate a bit of national interest in OUR HERITAGE

I like the self identity mate especially. Maybe we should organise a big get together to go down there in our free time while theres no matches on this week to support Dave and put our interests forward and tell the city and particularly the council of OUR self identity and heretige.
