A big call, i know but..I've always been one of those folk who liked the fact that we were one of the few cities with 2 league clubs. Whilst it's easy to gloat over the current misfortunes of the knuckle-headed neighbours it would be a shame to see them go bump.
I would like to propose that once there is at least one clear division's gap between us and them that it becomes acceptable to make the odd trip to Vale Park on Saturdays when the Potters have no home match. It will come as no surprise to some of you that glory hunters from Boslem and Tunstall will be taking regular seats at the Brit as soon as we are in the Prem. Isn't it only fair that Stoke fans repay the compliment occasionally - even if it's just to see how the other half live against Morecambe, Dagenham and Reds and Stanley.

Well perhaps 2 divisions gap then Though seriously, how far below us do they have to be to become inconsequential? So that a trip to watch a simple game of football on a Saturday afternoon carries no stigmatic stain on your true loyalty? ???

When they're in the Nationwide Conference, could go down to gloat at them, although that might be unfairly cruel.
Sorry, Blue Square Premier.

All that animosity in the 90s, did it really happen? I go up to Boslem for the occasional night on the drink and have ended up chatting sometimes with the locals about the local football scene and they've been fine.
One sad story though was being in one of the Boslem pubs one Saturday night during last season. A few Vale fans came in late on returning from an away game where they lost to a last minute goal, on being greeted and commiserated by the landlord, one of them said 'well at least Stoke didn't win'
I suppose a bad result for us is all they have to cling on to now, which is really sad so sod em!

There was undoubtedly a time when the milk of human kindness extended to our near neighbors. But any poor unfortunate who attended the Auto Glass cup fixture at the Brit in front of about 8,000 a few years back will know the true meaning of futility - the sound of one hand clapping, the sound of a tree falling in the forest with no-one there to hear it, the sound of a Boothen End expecting respective league placings to tell in a Stoke/Vale fixture. In summary, may they perish.

Well it seems fairly unanimous at this point. Still, I know there is only about 4000 of them out there but...are they not your Brothers, Work Colleagues, Neighbours? I can accept that you wouldn't want to give them your cash but loss of league status would reflect badly on the City.

On your logic, I should go and watch Man Ure because I have a colleague who supports them (he was born & brought up in Manchester). If I wanted to support a local team at home when Stoke weren't playing, I'd go to the Lyme Valley Stadium.

It’s an interesting concept, sitting at Vale Park yelling obscenities at their players, oh sorry did you mean supporting them during these games or in the away end abusing them.
I think when people used to do that it was more because it wasn’t so easy to travel and there was far less things to amuse yourself on a Saturday but since hands were invented I would rather sit picking fleas off the cat listening to Stoke on the radio if I couldn’t get to an away game than watch Vale.
Though if they ever get down to the level of a Sunday park team then I might nip down and take a look if for no other reason to let the dog use them as a place to relieve itself I mean another pile of crap on the pitch wouldn’t matter would it

If I wanted to support a local team at home when Stoke weren't playing, I'd go to the Lyme Valley Stadium. Well, not exactly. Vale are a team within Stoke on Trent. Manchester United are based in a city an hour up the road. You would probably have to drive past about 5 other league grounds to get to Old Trafford. Ironically, I'll bet there are plenty on this board who would have visited that particular part of the country to watch a game of football (without stoke playing) and wouldn't admit to it on here. For the record, your Honour, I would dance in the street if they lost their place in the league.

Here's my favourite Vale post on OVF for this week, during a debate on why there's four relegation spots in League 2:
Woah, there's a whole bag of chips on that shoulder. Why not bring up the market while you're at it? ;D
