we'd have played exactly the same way with fuller barely getting a sniff.
the important thing now is that we do play with an attacking intent now that we have seen off the fixtures against the big boys. every game from now until the end of the season is winnable.

March4 I agree....The difference will be a more cohesive blend of power and trickery.I can see both linking up well and Beattie made some great passes today.
Ricardo Fuller and Beattie were made for each other.

The reason I asked the question, was because if he had have been available, would this have meant that Pulis would have played 4-4-2 today and not played Cresswell in the hole. I honestly believe that he would have still started with Cresswell even if Ric had been available! You could suggest that he would have played Beattie in the hole, but if that had of been the case, why didn't he do that anyway today with Kits up top? |

Paul Spenser....I disagree.I think Pulis is well aware that in the final minutes of that game Fuller is a player who can hold the ball up well and take some of the pressure off our tired defenders legs.Cresswell ran himself into the ground never the less , but when he did get the ball ended upp losing it rather quickly.
I'm not saying we may have won the game, but in these kind of situations Fuller is the man you want on the field rather than Cresswell.
Whem Sidibe is fit enough to return I can see Fuller and Beattie up front with Sidibe in his usual role with Kitson warming the bench.

I'd like to think we'd go with Fuller and Beattie whenever possible.
When you've got a front 2 of their quality, surely you've got to try and lay a glove on the opposition. They're a proper Premier League strike partnership.
Not go gung-ho, but just give yourselves the chance to cash in on possession in their third.
This tactic of inviting pressure onto ourselves, surrendering possession and territory and setting ourselves up for a barrage, a bit like Ali in the Rumble in the Jungle, is normally going to end one way.
Having said that, we nearly pulled off a heroic Rocky Bilbao-like miracle for the third time this season, after Wigan and Liverpool and all the players deserve a medal.

IT CERTAINLY WILL BE the way we play at home.Our away games may continue to be more defensive.

Both strikers up front may be asked to chase back more with just the one designated to stay up front or alternate the role as directed.
Essentially it does appear a more attacking role in the trueist sense of a 4 4 2 formation, but this may only be evident from big kicks up field from defence or the goalkeeper.

In the short space of time Kitson was on the field he looked brighter and sharper...more confident.Perhaps he relishes the prospect of playing alongside Beattie on a regular basis but I fear he may be mistaken.I can only see him as a 'Super sub' ...however unrealistic this expression may be in reality..
I also thought that Cresswell worked his socks off , but sadly his skill level not up to the standard required.No one could knock him for his efforts tho'...and that goes for the rest of the team too. We were outclassed...to be honest.

I still hold the belief that Fuller is arguably the best player we have...better than Kitson or Beattie.I will continue to do so until proved otherwise by the performances of those two I have just mentioned. There are several candidates some may argue...but none have that special piece of trickery and guile to win a game virtually single handed, which Fuller clearly can. This is the main reason why we have to put up with his errant behaviour at times....but it is worth it in the end.That's why Tony calls him fondly the 'special one'. |

Mmmm, I know what you mean but his last act was amazingly bad and very costly. After his ed against Luton in 07 he came back in great form and pulled his head in. Hopefully he can repat that.

Some of Fuller's antics stick in the craw, but I think he's still the best player we've got. Can't see him going anywhere, and I'd hope he's still the first name on the team sheet. I think Fuller-Beattie, a genuine Premier League standard pairing ,is the way to go in nearly every situation. |
