"Make no mistake, however, he was every bit a part of what got us AS A TEAM to 1-0 after 60mins today..."
Make no mistake, he was every bit a part of what eventually lost us the game.
He and Griffin both let their CF win a header he should never have got which led to the equaliser.
Also, Cresswell may be a striker, but he is only getting games becasue he fits TP's ultra defensive plans of have 9 or 10 men behind the ball - a tactic which I fear will ulimately see us relegated.

he aint good enough simple as that. what annoyed me is despite not scoring kitson has proved in the past he has quality and we paid 5 mill for him, yet he was on the bench yday behind cresswell who has proved consistently that you can play 90 mins of football and do absolutly nothing. he is a good character, works hard etc, but is the kind of player that aint goin keep us in the league

a squad player yes benched striker yes left winger FFS NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spot on. 12 months ago certain people wanted Gallagher - where is he now. 6 months ago it was Whelan and the lad is now taking a hammering on another thread. 3 months ago it was Soares - he's gone never to be seen again and soon forgotten. Now Kitson is the best thing since sliced bread even though he isn't match fit. This 'the grass is greener' arguement doesn't hold any water. Potentially Kitson is the best player we have. There is something wrong and don't blame TP. Stoke's tactics are the best known in football and Kitson and his agent knew exactly what they were joining. I am wondering if he or his family are struggling to settle in the area. It can be a big change for some people and home sickness can become debilitating. I remember Mills signing Ian Allinson (a cracking signing). He couldn't settle to the point it was making him physically ill and we had to let him go almost immediately. I am going to lay off Dave for a while, I think there is more to his situation than meets the eye. I must say that criticising anyone who played yesterday is in very bad taste at the moment considering how wretched we all feel. Unless of course those with the Cresswell fixation don't feel wretched today

Well Pez, you've said a lot of what I'm feeling at the moment. We have tried the ultra-cautious defensive approach and it didn't work away from hom. Time to show a little more adventure and begin that run to ultimate safety!

I appreciate what cresswell offers the team but, and I know this might be revolutionary, strikers need to score goals and he hasn't looked remotely like achieving that.

Second half at Newcastle, the whole team played the game in the opposition half and it paid dividends. At Blackburn, Man City and Bolton, nearly the whole game was played in the opposition half and we suffered our three most dispiriting defeats of the season. Difficult conundrum this one.
Defend and lose, attack and lose. Yesterday, I really thought we were going to break our away voodoo. If we had, we would be mid-table, none of these threads would exist and some contributors would be notable only by their absence.
I still feel depressed

You have to remember we were playing Chelsea away though. We're nowhere near good enough to go there and play 4-4-2. They'd have outnumbered the midfield and scored at will. Now whilst Cresswell is not the best striker at the club, who else would you have played considering who was available?
Perhaps a five man midfield could be an answer, but we're also lacking in the defensive midfielder department with Diao being injured. I think people should lay off Cresswell at the moment. He's not first choice. He's a squad player and is doing everything being asked of him.

I agree with Jarhead. If Pulis persists in playing Cresswell, he will be signing his own death warrant for relegation to the Championship. I feel sorry for him in a way, in that he tries hard every week, but embarasses himself with his feeble attempts to take on opponents. There were a couple of occasions again yesterday, when he had the chance to pass to Ethers, but instead attempted to take on his opponent and failing miserably with his headless chicked head-down approach. Not good enough I'm afraid.

his poorest game to date. One time in particular in the 83rd minute stands out, and the commentator says "cresswell gets the ball, and is instantly disposessed, that really was poor play from him" the nth time in that game he was either disposessed or fell over. He needs to be a back up .......For Burnley

Same few posters. This time last year you wanted Mama out. Not a clue. Repeated negativity is destructive not just to the target, but also to the person spewing the bile. As I said earlier, criticising today is tactless at best and totally bad taste at worst. All of the people who care deeply about Stoke City are hurting too deeply to criticise any of the players who gave their all yesterday. If anyone is being critical then I'm sorry you are not depressed enough

If anyone is being critical then I'm sorry you are not depressed enough It's the guy who plays him in a left midfield slot with 5 (9 with injury) minutes left when he's run around a lot up front and knackered instead of putting on fresh legs in that position that should take the blame, Liam should have gone on or is he off to derby this week

Agree with this, but I think it's wrong to pick a striker for this reason. Then you don't play to win games, which unfortunately is the Pulis way to play football.
