You need get mrs Rocket to give you a massage. Did your doctor say anything about physio? They usually give you a timescale and/or suggestions of how to lessen the pain The nurse at A&E showed me some exercises to do & they have improved the mobillity in my neck/shoulder. ;D I'm getting stir-crazy being stuck at home (even tho i love home). Mrs Rocket = Massages a'plenty. ;D

If you feel it may be a longer term thing then maybe invest in a TENS machine Sorry for being thick, but what's a TENS machine mate ? ??? ;D

TENS machine Is an electronic thingy where you stick two little pads either side of the prob and it sends a little electric current to the area ( bit like pins and needles). Sometimes it helps and sometimes it does nothing. You can get them cheap from Loyds now.
Personally i prefer to use a hot water bottle
I've suffered with my back for years. The only advice i can give is to keep mobile no matter how bad it gets. and when its really bad Co-codamol is god ;D frasier

Keeping mobile, YES, ;D I'm doing me best & doing the exercises that the nurse told me to do. ;D I reckon i need a new pillow as well, cuz the one i sleep on is old n knackered.

Changing your pillow or adding another can help. My problem is lower L4 L5 worn, and also suffered with spasms down the main muscle down the right. Turning your mattress once a week helps too.
Do i sound like an old man ;D

Rocket,
Don't know what injury you had, or how, but if it's any help, my ex hurt her back & shoulder falling over whilst ice-skating. The one thing she swears by that made the difference was accupuncture - send me a PM if you want me to get further details.

This isn't what you want to hear but it can be a long term thing, especially if it's going into spasm. So if you possibly can, take the time now, get the best physio you can and rest it as much as you can.

Not quite the same thing but when I hurt my back with Psiaticha (spelling) I was having physio for six months and even that still didnt work. Everytime it gets cold I feel it in my old bones. The doctor told me to rub things like which hazel oil in and lint etc.

I've had back problems for years, had L4/L5 disc removed in the early eighties Last year, after years of sleeping on a crappy mattress I bit the bullet and ordered a memory foam mattress and pillows from trusleep.com, cost me about £270 for the mattress and 2 pillows. The difference has been simply amazing. I still get pain (sciatica) and always will, but (touches wood!) nowhere near as bad as it was, can't recommend these things, or the company I bought them from, highly enough. I also use a TENS machine now and then (Lloyds pharmacy - about £15 iirc) which does help. Personally I try and stay away from painkillers as much as possible, I worry that I could unwittingly do more damage to my back when the sensation is numbed. www.trusleep.com/Hope the link works, if not just google trusleep, there's some testimonials on there that are worth a read. Best £270 I've ever spent tbh, if I'd known how good they were I'd have happily paid a couple of grand. No, I'm not on a commission, sadly.
