This season feels all too surreal at the moment. We are going to have spent £30 million on new players like Dave Kitson/ James Beattie when I've been brought up on Billy Whitehurst and Dave Bamber. In Peter Coates we trust and will always be grateful for the ambition shown and the fact that he has the best interests of the club at heart. However, if the worst happens, will we have pushed the boat out too far? Will crowds drop back to 15000 + will the wages become just a huge burden? Do the players have a huge re-sell value and if not will PC just plough more money in to balance the books? I don't want to sound negative but 30 odd years following Stoke does that to a man.

No, Peter Coates is no fool when it comes to money, some players will be leaving, the net result will be a better squad

Think Fornside aka Lakeland Potter is clued up about our finances. He's the man to ask. My limited knowledge seems to believe that the £20 mill spent is Prem cash and anything over that should come from Uncle Peter's wallet. Simple, I know, I may be wrong At least we don't have a £666 mil (manure) or £560 mil (Lpool) or £500 mil (Chelski) Debt!! We own the Brit and United's creditors own Old Trafford. Ouch.

FFS year's of moaning and shout's of Coate's get your cheque book out, selling our best players and putting nothing back in and now it's our turn after all these years AND NOW YOUR WORRIED . Sorry for shouting ;D but come on. Relax enjoy. Saint Peter is not stupid he knows what he is up to, and we have NO idea really how much he has or how much he is willing to spend. Trust in Saint Peter and uncle Tony will deliver the goods. In TP and PC we trust

I dont think its the fees that are the problem its the wages. It depends what the contracts look like and it would only be a problem if we went down. You have to say that Pete is a shrewd bloke so he must be trusted

For years we've craved the big time, now we 're there this is the price we have to pay to stay there. Next year the budget will be much bigger -probably our first £10 million player- assuming we can stay up

It would be impossible to survive in this league without spending large ammounts of money. You cant have it both ways mate.

swampy, why would wages be a problem if we are relegated? As Ive said before, on here, if we haven't linked wages to the division we're in, at the start of each season, we're not fit to be a PL club. You underestimate PC's shrewdness and busines sense, I fear. That why I've never believed in parachute payments (and still don't) but Gordon Taylor (CE of the PFA) always told me that you could not do what I was suggesting, as above. I told him that it was indeed possible, with resolve, and that it was otherwise not fair on those in the lower divisions, players whom he also represented as their union boss. It has of course proved possible, in recent seasons, and those who remain , despite relegation, (to which they have contributed) take a cut, while those who feel that the Championship is beneath them, move on. This does not mean that we mustn't be careful with money and must not go overboard. Let's hope that Deidre Coates is keeping a watchful eye on the Brit housekeeping.

I know where you're coming from. Havng seen so many former top flight clubs fall from grace and struggle over the years (and still it keeps happening) , I'm a bit jittery as well. But - as people have pointed out, PC is no fool - contracts will haveben put in place wth signings that won't leave us too exposed (I hope) .
Neither can I see crowds falling away that quickly if we do drop. We have had a better season than Derby had last year already and they retained support after the drop. TP is putting a great squad together and that is what will attract/retain fans fora good few seasons.

I am a little concerned that we are going to do a Charlton in the coming years.
BUT Coatsey is a shrewed business man, and TP is a clever manager. Think we will be fine, wont be in any trouble
