Not much you can do about it to be honest, thats just the rates.
Have you looked at the pass plus?, this can be the equivalent discount of about a years no claims bonus with some companies.

thought of that onmebonce...when he's on with a provisional its 440 quid when he on with a full licence its 1600 quid....plus next year he still won't have a years no claims,so it cancels itself out anyway......

insure car in your name and put him on as second driver Seriously thats a good suggestion. Thats what I did 30 odd years ago till I was a bit older and could afford to go it on my own. because I was older the premiums weren't ridiculous

Thats called 'Fronting', and wont really get you anywhere as the policy is always rated on the highest risk driver, plus the kid wont build up any no claims bonus in his own name.

i used to be a motor insurance clerk a few years ago mate, corsa's are the best/cheapest cars to insure, have you tried TPFT or TPO? try TPO as not many will insure a young driver for Comp. the more people willing to quote you the better,, you'll find more will quote on TPO. If you and your mrs both have a licence it may be worthwhile registering your sons motor in either yours or her name, (whichever of you does'nt have a car), as long as the proposed policy holder (you or the mrs) doesnt have or are a named driver on another car - you can then claim that your son is just a casual driver who will drive at weekends and the registerd keeper and owner of the motor is actually the main driver you or your mrs, the thing is if the intended policy holder(you or the mrs) own their own motor or are a named driver on another car in the household, then the insurance company will say that your son is the main driver as the policyholder has use of another car - in that instance the price will stay the same. have your son as just the casual/additional driver. mileage also makes a difference to mate. i just say i do 8000 on mine. any questions about motor insurance PM me mate only problem is he won't build up any no claims bonus. car insurance automattically goes down after 25 though. Motor insurance is a rip-off but there are ways of making it cheaper

direct line, enables named drivers to earn there own no claims discounts. I think its only applicable if you continue to insure with them but it may be useful later on down the line if you do insure with them. They we're by far the cheapest for me when i was looking for insurance last year. They also offer the multi car so you may be able to later add your own car to the policy and make a small saving when yours is due aswel
