This season could possibly require the lowest amount of points needed to stay up, with everybody beating everybody i can see it being very close, i can us going into the last game of the seaon with 4/5 clubs still in danger of going down!

Surely as its all so close, wouldnt that require a higher points tally to stay up as there is fuck all gap between the bottom 6 or 7 sides at the moment?

possibly but as well alot of teams need to play the "big" teams so you can see alot of points being dropped, many of the teams in danger of relegation are very similar in terms of quality and thus you could argue that many draws will be picked up rather than wins, it could go either way!

I see your point, well it would be more easier for us if we were out of contention for the drop by then...
But this is Stoke we are talking about.

I haven't researched this, so I don't know if the facts back me up, but my impression of previous years is that by this stage in the season, there've always been at least one or two teams at the bottom with a points tally lower than the 18 that Brazil and Blackburn have collected so far. If what I believe is correct, then it's more likely that a greater number of points than usual will be required to survive.
I still think that 40 points might not be enough, and that goal difference will probably decide 17th & 18th.

I believe that if we have more points than 3 other teams, chances are we might stay up
As for predictions it is totally waste of time. We could suddenly with new confidence new signings go on a 4 match winning streak???

Surely, you mean the HIGHEST number of points?
I'd say that 42-43 should do the trick.

I keep looking at the fixture list , the point against lpool at the brit was imo a bonus point, (not the game we could have had 3 but on paper before the match i had us down for 0 points)
with the rest of the fixtures I have us down for 49 points but fortress brittania must continue .

I think we need some points away from home - starting with three on Saturday

The Xmas/New Year period has been our most difficult block of games.
Our (2 month) run-in to the end of the season looks to be about as good as it could be. So with our new signings and fingers crossed,we should be OK .

It could be as high as 45 points needed to stay up this year, I reckon.
No one has dropped off from the pack and any one from Hull in 8th downwards could still get relegated (Wigan in 7th would really have to spontaneously combust not to get 15 more points to take them to 46).
I can't see WBA escaping, but other than that it depends on so many factors - if Sam can turn Blackburn around, if 'Arry spends well and Spurs continue to improve, if our new players gel and we work out how to win away, if Sunderland's new boss gets them going, if Adams gets Pompey out of their rut, if Man City spend their mega millions, if West Ham sell half their squad etc.
My forecast - Pompey and Middlesborough to join the Baggies, with Stoke in 15th on 49 points.

I still think that 40 points might not be enough, and that goal difference will probably decide 17th & 18th. the reason brazil and sideburn have 18 pts is that all the teams in danger keep beating each other(mainly us away ). if that trend continues no team will be adrift at bottom so probably be 4 or 5 teams around the 35-40 points mark. so think 40 should piss it.

playing a team at mid table is better than playing 1 fighting 4 survival when it comes april time...

I reckon 40 may still keep us up, surly there's got to be a few that drop off during the 2nd half of the season, hopefully not us. Looking at the remaining fixtures and the new signings, I'm hopeful we can get about 45 points.
