Are there many American Stokies on here? I am wondering if anybody who is over there working/living could inform me of the best ways to get in to work over there. Do you have to have a trade behind you like Australia or a job already in place?

IT's a fucking nightmare, basically.
You have to aply for a job, then if you get it, the company employing you need to prove that the job has been advertised and that no suitable American candidate could be found to fill the position. The employer then has to hold the position open for you, while you apply for a visa (which could take up to two years).
It is a bit easier if you are a successful "proffessional" in certain fields (Doctor, Actor, Musician, 7'9" basketball star) but other than that, it's a pain in the arse.

I'm actually in the process of moving over (i'm in the US at the moment house hunting). My company has an office in the UK and an office in the US. I'm in a "management" role and there won't be a problem getting an L1 visa (so I'm led to believe).
Other than that I've heard it's very difficult, but Canada is much simpler.

Yeah, inter-company transfers make things a lot easier. What part of the States are you in?

The Canadian branch of the field I will be going into does not offer me as much as the UK or US would in terms of work and money equally.

My ideas so far:
- What should I take to them to remind them of Stoke/England/Britain? -Tea Bags -Stoke scarf/hat -Walkers(Not Lays)crisps ;D -A guide to British slang (Or something along tose lines so they understand me when i go into full flow Stokie ;D Just saying reet duck will be enough to scare them ;D )
- Where should I show them around in Stoke/England/Britain? - Stoke Match - A British pub - Shopping up Hanley/Congleton/Wherever close ;D
- What should I buy from America for my Little Sister as a memento of America? - Baseball stuff (Boston Red Sox) - Basketball stuff - Little Cape Cod/Martha's Vineyard stuff - NFL stuff ;D - NHL stuff ;D - Some sort of American food
By the way, do you know of any American holidays or special days between 22nd October and 1st November ;D

Yanks are amazed that by public transport you can get anywhere in the UK inside of 24 hours
(I know my dad is married to one and it baffled her when she came over)
Get a train down to London, do the west end maybe, bit of national rail, bit of tube, Leicester square/covent garden
They seem to be fascinated by history aswell, plenty of that round the midlands, old mills/mines etc, they love that shit
