For a season or so, Greenhoff and Ritchie also had the benefit of one of the best attacking midfilders this country has ever produced .

Dye Etheringtons hair ginger, and through rose coloured specs one could almost imagine that it was Conroy jigging his way around players! We are now seeing a striking parallel between Waddo and Pulis, with regards their employment policies. I always thought that Tony W. was hiring players that were too old/ past their prime....and came to Stoke to earn a few quid after a glittering career elsewhwere.(eg.Hurst and Hudson, but it shows what I know about football!) These players went on to be great servants to the club. Since we cannot compete with the stellar signings of the super rich,it is nice to see that there is joined- up thinking in the Stoke Boardroom.Evolution not revolution. We are not going to get our fingers burn't with costly players not pulling their weight (as 'Arry ould say). This transfer gamble is a risky business, but a gradual development and consolidation is probably the most logical and sustainable policy. If promotion to the premiership was part of a 3 year plan, then survival followed by consolidation within this division will have to be at least this long. In T.P.we are therefore looking at a manager who has the potential to mirror Waddo in another respect-that of long service. If the current management policy of continuity and fiscal prudence continues,it just might be that SCFC will grow into an established force in the premiership. Others clubs have done it because of their questionable foreign 'sugar daddies'. (I can't help but think of the managers we had since our drop from 'grace' and boardroom changes we have had to endure). SCFC have had to take the long road of evolution. It is this that has made us potentially stronger than most clubs. And this is mirrored by the strength of the foundations underlying the club. It is these foundations that have left the media somewhat surprised and perplexed by their noise, and their passion. They forget that they have 'MADE IN STOKE ON TRENT' written through them.
