Okay, it's obvious that Tony Pulis reads this board before picking his teams so let's show him our own personal preferred starting XI for Chelsea. I'll go first. GK... Sorensen RB... Griffin/Wilkinson (or new signing - French player!?) CB... Abdoulaye Faye CB... Ryan Shawcross LB... Danny Higginbotham RM... Liam Lawrence CM... Amdy Faye CM... Rory Delap LM... Matthew Etherington FW... Dave Kitson FW... James Beattie That team actually quite excites me!

Chelsea have looked suspect lately and with Rory's throws getitng back to their very best I don;t think we can afford to offer them the luxury of avoiding having to deal with his rockets for a second time this season. Still a damned good starting line-up though.

As happy as I am at the prospect of Lawrence and Etherington on either flank I get the feeling Tone will only ever play one or the other (unless we are 3-0 down or something). Just like he did with Lawrence/Tonge at the beginning of the season and Tonge/Soares when Liam became injured.
Beattie should go straight in. Not sure who will play the 'Mama' role but I'm sure one of them will. Also, I seem to remember Beattie scoring within seconds of the KO at the bridge once with a stunning goal.
I'd go with-
GK... Sorensen
RB... Wilkinson (doubt we will get anyone in but if so I'm not sure about playing them from the off) CB... Abdoulaye Faye CB... Ryan Shawcross LB... Danny Higginbotham
RM... Liam Lawrence CM... Amdy Faye CM... Glen Whelan LM... Matthew Etherington
FW... James Beattie FW... Dave Kitson
But I think Delap will be in ahead of Lawrence, who will come on in place of Etherington and I can see beattie playing behind Kitson in the Mama role. He isn't as big but probably stronger than Kitson.

Is Lawrence fit enough for a start though? As much as I'd like him to be I think we'll see basically the same team v Liverpool but Beattie replacing Cresswell.

i dont think lawrence will start yet especially considering how much running he would be expected to do at Chelsea, rory will be on the right i think with Amdy and Diao in the middle, and whelan if Diao isnt fit!

sorensen wilkinson ab faye shawcross higgy delap whelan am faye etherington beattie kitson
there hasnt been a better chance to beat chelsea at their place for years. lets go and have a go and get our new forward in the game and not just chasing lost causes.

I concur. This will definitely be a 'hang on and see what we get' game, so TP will go for a solid wall in front of back 4. Lawrence can get a run out second half, then play at least an hour in the reserves next week to enable him to start the next game. Unless we win at Chelsea of course, in which case an unchanged lineup is in order! Beattie can't half belt in some long range corkers! Been watching them on Youtube. Which kind of makes him the Mama person and Kitson the Fuller? Can't see us turning all tippy tappy just yet.

I'll pray that Griffin is fit again as Wilkinson is even more of a liability IMHO. Can you see Pulis not playing his skipper if fit? However, if he's looking at a French right-back perhaps that decision is even closer.

Ahhh, but Smudge, Alan Hansen (or perhaps it was Lawrenson) tells us that Chelsea were the only team to cope with Delap's arrows I'd go for Smudge's side- I can't see Delap being left out.

I'd go for Smudge's XI, but I suspect Liam will be on the bench, with Delap on the right and a Faye - Diao partnership in the centre. Can't see TP playing two attacking wide men away at Chelsea.

Delap didn't play against them at the Brit.
Not sure I'd start with Lawrence.

The way Chelsea have been defending high balls in to their box the last month or so, Delap should be a certain starter but I thing he will start on the right with Faye in the middle with either Whelan or Diao, Ethers on the left with Lawrence once again on the bench. I think the rest of the team picks itself.
