and big time. Best part of £30million spent on players so far this season he must now keep us up in this division. Nothing else will do, no matter what anyone says. Great signing of Beattie and Etherington - both players with something to prove which I think appeals to the manager. Lawrence is back, Fuller & Mama back soon and with a good pacey right back we have the players to survive. Over to you Tony - you have been given the tools. At the mo pugs i agree with you m8!! I won't even contemplate going down to the championship when there is still so much to play for.. even though we would have an extremely competitive strong team to get us back up again.. Stronger and bigger than the one we came up with for sure!! But don't fear beattie's here and so is our own support!! To be fair i think pullis has done as good as he possibly can and so have the back room staff!!! We going in the right places.. we can see improvements being made ie players were attracting,, even a big telly screen at the brit wow!! I swear even the catering burgers are tasting better outside!! I don't think were in this for the short term to be fair but there is one thing thats different fro us and it has to be appreciated and is Peter Coates.. I don't wish to be rude but he is getting on a bit!! He's made more money than he'll ever spend and this is his big chance too and so he's spending 'his money'.. Whether its backed up by sky payments,,, parachute etc its his right now!!! I as a supporter am not worried!! Things change and so is stoke. 30 million seems a hell of a lot but is small fry in this division. The club owns its own ground prior debt was very small in comparison to most promoted teams. But in fairness we're doing great really.. points will come i'm sure... Effectively he's built mainly from the back out. Yeagh some of the players might not have worked out but thats the risk you have to take. you have to speculate to accumalate and due to the constraints regarding loans etc you don't have the same options!! To get the abdoulaye fayes of this world you have to take a few sonko's in to see if they can fit. Before reg prem proven players come in you have show you have a chance of survival.. its a knock on effect and if stoke wan't to make it a steady mid table club we'll be spending more than 30 million for sure.. All we need to do is convert more chances and i think tp and pc are heading in the right direction with our current signings!! Get the right blend without sacrificing our ruggedness and we will stay up!!! Believe never mind what the table is showing us!! Be glad we have the financial backing,, be glad for new signings ,, how many times have we been waiting for a forward ,, any forward?? a left winger?? only for the disapointment of the transfer window to shut saying we couldn't get the right player o r targets pissing off to rivals etc!! We are in control of our own destiny as a club more so than any time in the last 20 odd years!! Our away fans are immense ,, our home fans are immense our team is getting stronger and apart from the odd lapse of frustration/ waving of hands affecting our jamaican hero (he can be no other way!! Love him or hate him) we have accounted ourselves very well so far. I would have liked top 6 though!! Poor tony poor!! I think come the end We'll still finish above Hull and West brom though.. Hull's bubbles burst unfortunately for them ( i actually believed they were virtually guaranteed safe a few games back but things seem to be going wrong quick) and the baggies have too many problems to list!! So it leaves us with one other side to rise above!! Theres a few to choose from!! also our own luck has to change!! We can't keep hitting the bar etc forever or just shooting wide ,, we will always know to defend and harrass other sides if we can put them in the other end then more 3 points will come.. I fancy us for 3 points against chelski. Anybody with me on this!!

I think people need to administer some realism capsules... anally if possible..
Personally, I think that PC has spent / is spending the Sky money... nothing more, nothing less.. he's a betting man, and its an evens bet... spend £30m, get £30m back...

Dubai - he is spending more than the Sky money. So far the transfer fees take up about what the annual Sky payments are. But the wage bill will have increased by far more than the rest of our non Sky income will have increased. So, we are headed for another loss this year on top of the loss last financial year. It is Coates and no one else who is funding those losses. Hopefully, next season, if we stay up, he will see the club moving towards profit and may start to recoup some of those losses. But for, for the next year or so, the only way he could break even on his total investment would be if he sold part or all of the club to other investors.

Pressures on YOU now Pugsley to support the club. Nothing else will do. Don't question my support mate, I've been there for the 28 years the vast majority watching shite. I don't need to lick the arse of any manager to prove I support Stoke City, or jump on the we are Premier League bandwagon like some muppets on here.

I said it about Keane last season (and was shouted down, I seem to remember, by one Pugsley) and I think it applies here as well. We've spent a LOT of money. I have faith in the manager and the team to deliver on it. I think we didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into in the summer and panicked by blowing a wad on a fair few panic buys, and suspect we couldn't attract quality because everyone was expecting us to do a Derby. Now we've proved we can put up a fight, we're seeing an upturn in the quality of player we can attract.

"you have been given the tools" - he is building a squad from a mid table championship team to premiership team, improving all the time. I thought we finished runners up last season not mid table?? Peter has backed Tony to the hilt both in terms of cash and not getting involved in any player he wants and as a manager you can't ask for more than that. To be faior Pugsley has a point, this is Tonys team and he has been supported all the way, therefore the pressure is on to deliver Premiership football next season to justify Peters backing.

There is a need to reduce the squad size during this window As far as pressure goes I think if Pulis can get at least as many points a s in the first half - whether or not we stay up - it will be regarded by PC as a success - and he would get a second go Of course we dont expect that do we

I think a team to go down with forty points in their first season in the Sky League could consider themselves really unlucky.
I EXPECT us to stay up and will be bitterly disappointed if we don't, especially with the money spent.

The Pressure is on TP now ...... and thats exactly where he will want it to be.
We're beginning to compete now and with it being so close down here a few good results (probably starting after Saturday) and we'll be well away.
I honestly don't think we'll go down because of own home form alone and that we are going to sneak a couple of wins away from home now on top!

I think a team to go down with forty points in their first season in the Sky League could consider themselves really unlucky. Normally I'd say you're right, but I can see it happening this year. Not counting Spurs, who will probably escape the bottom three before too long, only two teams are currently below the "point per game" average normally considered sufficient for survival. I still believe we have to be thinking in terms of 42 points for safety.

Think he performed a miracle getting the squad of players he had at his disposal , promoted last year. Performing another one this year – most of us thought we would beat Derby’s total at the beginning of the season.. Of course there is going to be pressure on him. He has invested a lot of time, and Coates money, in trying to make a competitive premiership side.. He also knows that a large majority of his own supporters will be baying for his blood, should he fail. My Prediction: Fort Britannia will not be breached again this season and we will finish in the top half, this weekend: Chelsea 1 – 2 Stoke Beatie, Kitson

The main measure of sucess for any manager is has he managed to provide a better football club than the one he inherited and did we improve on the year before.
Staying up is not the only measure of his sucess and surely a rather arbitary one at best. Last year we were the 22nd best team in the Football league. This year we cant help but be at least the 20th best playing against the greatest teams in Europe.
Look at the squad and teh players we own. Not the ones we loaned and are we stronger than when TP arrived and stronger than we were when we got promoted.
The answer is already YES.
Even if we did go down (which I have confidence we wont) We are better prepared to come back up. We have: Premier league experience Better players More assets to wheel and deal with Attracting better players and regularly have full houses at home.
TP has already and is continuing to deliver a better team year on year. Lets have this conversation when teh pendulum swings the other way. Enjoy the ride and be positive. We are competing and holding our own in the best league in the world. In two years TP has turned this club around with great help from PC. All time hero Waddo did the same in 10 years to be competitive in a world much less tainted by money.
TP keep up teh good work you are doing a cracking job, and to all those who even two weeks ago thought January was going to be our worst month of the campaign now have optimism we might get something at the Bridge.
No pressure TP just keep doing what you are doing. Goarn Stoke!!

Even if we did go down (which I have confidence we wont) We are better prepared to come back up. We have: Premier league experience Better players More assets to wheel and deal with Attracting better players and regularly have full houses at home. Going down really is the kiss of death and it can decimate a squad. All our players are now have "premiership experience", the likes of Shawcross, Ab Faye, Fuller, Higgy, Lawrence(?), Etherington have all shown they can do a good job in the prem and will all become targets for bigger clubs. If we lose the spine of the team we have to rebuild an entire squad again, even with parachute payments it could be difficult to get players of similar quality to what we had last season in. Why do you think so many teams struggle to bounce right back, despite having VASTLY more money than any of the teams around them.
