I've seen a few people criticising him today but I thought he was our man of the match by some distace last night. Cort and Shawcross did ok I suppose but I'm loathe to praise any defenders because we were a complete shambles at the back!

Sadly, he will never recover properly from his injury.
I think he is due for a rest having played numerous games on the trot
He has plenty of good ideas in his head but can't implement them all the time which is extremely frustrating (for him and us)
I think he also lacks concentration at points in the game
It is a shame because before his injury he was absolute quality.
I wouldn't call him shit, he is just average to be honest
Mark- I didn't think he was our man of the match last night, in fact probably one of our poorer performers but that is why football is brilliant. We all see different matches!
Also, anyone noticed he tends to randomly hoof the ball high up in the air (usually once in a match)?!!!

We certainly do James!
I agree with you that he'll never be the same player by the way, I'm certainly not sticking up sticking up for his form in general as he's had some very poor games.
But I did think he was the one player to show a bit of fighting spirit last night - the rest of them looked like they were playing a training game.
Maybe I'm just being nostalgic because I bloody love the bloke...hence the avatar!

Good tackle on Emre though and a nice deaprting message to him when he got sent ;D
He does tend to lob a blind pass or two these days though and its a shame he can;t get abck to how he was

True, but Matteo is our official captain and Eusty is only acting
Could easily give the armband to Cort if necessary

SJE was best player for us last night I reckon.

SUPER JE was the best player last night and when we get someone in the midfield to help him the better. He covered every inch of that park last night and where was Delap? If only PUGH had started in midfield with him !!! At times he was pointing out to Delap who to mark and where to go, Delap is the weak link...
But that just my opinion...

Thats what makes this game great, different opinons. But honestly can you remember him passing to anyone in a red and white shirt?

I can remember lots of passes to players in red and only for his colleagues to proceed to phuck it up completely. The most notable culprits being Zakhani, Pugh, Delap, Parkin and Cresswell.
I am afraid that any midfielder would struggle when surrounded by that lot, particularly against a better side than we normally encounter in the championship.
Eustace was our best player by a country mile, and along with Simmo, Cort, Shawcross and Lawrence could be described as one of only 5 that did bother to turn up last night!

While Emre was busy committing a vile and disgusting assault on Eustace in a pathetic retaliation for a clean tackle, Eustace did actually play Fuller clean through. Had we played on, it would be 1-1.

He'll always be SJE.
He's worked his bollocks off to get fit and back in the first team, but sadly his injuries and virtual two year absence from the first team has taken it's toll. You can still see that he's a talented footballer but he's lost that yard of pace that made him a cut above many at our level.
He doesn't deserve the shit that he's currently getting from some supporters.

Thought Eustace was OK yesterday whereas Delap was an embarassment. We cannot continue to carry this guy any longer. Even his long throw is a waste when Mama is not around

Yep. Maybe its time to give eustace a break. I love the man and I think he has showed tremendous character to come back after such dreadful injury luck. However, by putting pugh in the centre with Diao would improve out midfield significantly. This would allow us to play Griff at LB and give our team much needed solidarity. Alternatively, we could play pugh at LM and puch cressy up and allowing eustace to partner Diao in midfield.

I'm holding off judgement till I've seen him alongside Salif for a while, instead of trying to hold a makeshift midfield together all the time. Like SGS says, he's shown fantastic character but with only a couple of exceptions he hasn't done it for me this season, and sadly I don't think he's a long term answer for us.

I agree with Sal, he is currently holding together the midfield on his own, lets see how he does alongside Diao for 6 or 7 games. If and when Whelan signs then he will be a squad player anyway.

I agree with Davef but still hold out hope that SJE alongside Diao will bring out the best in him (although realistically not the same standards he set before he got injured).
He's a hugely popular guy and I think some, like myself, have trouble accepting that he's not the player he used to be.
I hope that supporters don't start to give him any kind of abuse after what he's been through. His attitude and determination to get back into our team has been inspirational and even if his Stoke career ends with a whimper I'll always think of him as SUPER Jonny Eustace.

Just wanted to reiterate the majority of points raised above. He will always be Super Johnny Eustace and should NEVER suffer any abuse from ANY Stoke City supporter. However, he's not yet(?) reached the level of performance that the pre-injury SJE used to hit. The SJE of old would take games by the scruff of the neck and completely boss the midfield. Used to score plenty of goals too. Too often this season the game has passed SJE by. Whether that's because he can't do it on his own (the inclusion of Salif may help him), or whether he just hasn't got it anymore is the big question. The next couple of months will probably give us the answer.

eustace does one good pass and 3 bad passes
Then one good tackle and 3 bad tackles
The guy is past it, the sooner he is replaced with a more creative, athletic type player the better
