I'm a Whelan fan admittedley but I think bar the Hartlepool game Whelan has played consitantly well since he came on against Castle. He hasn't pulled up any trees but for me he's looked good and he's been tackling.
He does get caught in possesion but then again the worst for it in the midfield is Faye imo and Salif is a bugger for it too. And I think that comes from poor communication and a simple lack of a man-on shout.

To be fair GBA, we have been constantly linked with Joe Ledley, who I think would make an excellent partner for Diao OR Faye.

As I said before, I wouldn't be adverse to seeing Tongue take up a central midfield role. He has a decent touch and can often get his foot on the ball to calm things down. From what I have seen he can also deliver a defence splitting pass from time to time too. Whether he has the legs to play 90 minutes is debatable though due to the lack of football he's getting. He was playing centre mid for sheffield before he came, apparently that's now his best position.
Most of the starting 11 v Hartlepool were utter shite but Tongue probably edged it over Whelan for me. I am a fan of Whelan, and would rather see him play than Amdy & Diao in the same team. But his performance against Liverpool & Hartlepool wasn't the best. Which makes we wonder if Tongue could do any better!?
Edit - for the record I thought Amdy was class on saturday, and deserves to start against Chelsea no matter what.

See Portsmouth made an offer of £6 million for Benjani and Johnson. Johnson must be valued at about £3million. Think he would be a bargain at that money, as long as his off-field problems are not that bad, if not him then Valencia from Wigan.

Correct,at home we should NEVER think of playing two defensive crabs.Faye with Whelan is the best blend, for away games maybe look at it but eh we will never win a game away and still have'nt and Faye has really shown lately alongside Glenn.
