Just been thinking about the difference the towel makes.
It will always be dry in the summer and fully dry so we should score from them again in the summer.
Maybe this is the reason for the lack of goals from them at the moment?

Not really .....Kitson should have scored with his free header. We're too static in the penalty area.Players should be looking to attack the ball rather than wait till it comes to them which is what Kitson did and it nearly paid off

Nothing wrong with the throws, we're just not getting on the end of them. I'm sure if a decent header of the ball (eg. Beattie) had been on on Saturday, we'd have scored off one of them.

We need Mama back to flick them on as well.
But trust me. In the summer with a dry ball. These will be like darts.

Delap isn't actually throwing it that far at the minute, whether its his shoulder injury or the wet ball i dont know

He seems to be throwing it far better from the west side at the moment for some reason.

I think the fact that Mama isn't in there, is making it slightly easier for their defenders. It's also been bloody cold and his muscles probably aren't as loose and flexible compared to the early season games.

I agree Mama, or Beattie in the box, would have scored.

How long before the F.A bans these long throws for the time it takes to wipe the ball clean?

Rory is not throwing them as far, flat or fast at the moment. The reason is that he has a rotator cuff problem with one/both of his shoulders, hence all the injections. His thows will not improve until next season, unfortunately - when his shoulders get some rest

I disagree Crowey - Some of his throws have been superb. We're just not capitalising on them.

To be fair, Kitson's chance wasn't that easy. He made a superb run from nowhere to make himself the space and was stretching to reach it. He did exceptionally well to create the opportunity for himself in the first place.

dexter, I think if you have been watching closely over the last few matches, what I have said is true

People know its coming now. Still a weapon, but not as much as at the start of the season.

How long before the F.A bans these long throws for the time it takes to wipe the ball clean? I've wondered that too but does one of Rory's throws take any longer to execute than a corner does? I've been meaning to time this for a while now but keep forgetting. Is there anything in the rules that a throw in should be taken quicker than a corner?

There was debate over here in Oz on the Sky coverage as to whether towels are an "illegal" piece of equipment

Apart from a poor spell a few weeks ago, when his shoulder clearly was giving him jip, I haven't seen any deterioration in the quality of throw. A couple of them on Saturday were as flat and as fast as I've seen from him, and there was one against West Ham that made it to the other side of the box! Sure, they're not all as good, particularly early-on, but then they never have been.
I don't know what the situation is with his shoulder, but if it's still injured, then the jabs are doing the trick!

watching footy on the tele over the weekend (wigan sours and scum chelsea) and looking at MOTD highlights am i the only one who's noticed that when a team wins a throw in, probably 7 out of 10 times they end up giving the ball back to the opposition, it seems hard to throw the ball to a team mate, control it then pass it to another team mate, whereas with us, we go long and always create a chance from it, we're soo very lucky to have a weapon like this!!

PS..........on the debate whether Rory's throws have deterriated recently, you only have to lok at the right scud missile he put in from the right in the 1st half to say they're as effective as ever!!

Thanks for that PS, never even knew about it. Where does Rory stand in terms of world records? Maybe the fastest throw, but not the longest

He was using his shirt to dry the ball in the first half, and they weren't going as far, second half the towel appeared and they were back to his usual distance/speed/trajectory.

What confounds me is why opposition moaners don't use a towel of their own? I know that they don't have ball boys but they can surely put towels down the side?
They won't do that, I suppose, as they would then have no excuse fo the relatively lame throws of their own players?
