I used to like the Swan with 2 necks out in the country but not sure what it is like now. Great for an afternoon out, say Sunday afternoon but it is a bit of a drive.
It is rather small but the Old Bulls head in Newcastle during the day does very nice meals. Like traditional pies and things like that all home made with a nice atmosphere but think they only serve up until about 3pm.
Have a good un mate.

Try the Carthouse in Woore, it's not open every day/night so you need to book, bit pricey but well worth it.

cooperwoore.com/(I keep getting the name wrong, it used to be the Carthouse Croft and now it's just The Croft. And if anyone ever needs to know, it's particularly good for wheelchairs): www.croftatwoore.co.uk/

Good choice, The bells of Peover nearby is also very nice, leave your car there and go for a great country walk around the peovers (pronounced peevers) frist to work up an appetite. Also the Golden Pheasant in Plumley is nice. How about the bulls head north of Kidsgrove on the A50 just past the Smallwood traffic lights, I haven't been for a couple of yeras but was always good traditional food.

Very good value at the Brownlow and the steak is great. Think its best to book though as it gets busy. The other two worth a shout are The Harecastle and the Crown at Wrinehill.
