in no order
Man City, Portsmouth, Boro, Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan, Newcastle, West Ham
24 points? as possible as anything else, thought this after we played a couple of games at home and realised how good we are at home, minus couple of off days which we are allways going to have. but surely we can get 8 wins from last 8 home, then maybe go to west brom or hull and get the away win there

beaman yep, you would hope so.
Not trying to be negative or owt, but the one thing that is slightly worrying for me is that we haven't performed that well at the Brit against so called 'weaker opposition'.
We beat Aresenal and Villa, drew with Liverpool and there's not many neutrals who didn't think we should have got somet out of Man U.
But we looked poor against Fulham and Hull, and although we got all three points we could have easily ended up with a draw against the Baggies.
When teams come to us with the intention of winning then they walk straight into our game plan.
However when teams come to us intending to play cautious themselves, we tend to look laboured and struggle somewhat.
I'm just worried that looking at that list of matches above, then there are quite a few teams there that are going to come to the Brit with the intention of not losing and will play quite defensively.
We are going to have to show far more in the final third than we did in the Fulham and Hull games if we are going to get the points we need to survive.

nail on head Paul
Etherington, a fully fit Lawrence and Sidibe, a returning Fuller and a couple of new strikers would suggest that we will have the right kind of creativity and cutting edge to beat the 'weaker' teams.

Realistically, we won't win them all. 17-18 points and an away win possible though.

Good post, Paul, and very perceptive. We DO play better against better opposition, so it's psychological. Come on TP, get your psychiatrists hat on. Get the lads up for it. Convince them that theyare as good as WE think they are, bugger the pundits. If it takes our style of play to do it, do it, sod the purists!

27 points!....hang on, one Sherry to much! Realistically 5 or 6 wins. Can guarantee one thing, none of the sides will look forward to the trip to The Bear Pit!

It's a great run-in of homes fixtures for a team already on 21 points, that's for certain. As has been said you would expect us to slip up at least once, probably two or three times in fact, which means we simply have to get a couple of results away from home. Without being disrespectful to either Hull or West Brom, we have to look at those two fixures as very winnable and positive outcomes in those two games could have a defining impact on the whole season. Goooaaaarrrrrnnnnn Stoke, we can do it!!!!

I see 5 wins out of those 8, you have to be realistic, we are gonna have off days, 0-0 Fulham for example. 5 should be just enough though hopefully, will fingers crossed 1 away win and maybe a few draws.

After Arseole Whingers comments ,I would just love it if we stayed up and stopped the Arse from qualifying for Europe by beating the Arse at the Emirates. Now if Carling did football results......

And we must be the only team not to have to meet the "Top Four" (sorry Villa) throughout the whole of Feb, March and April! Come on lads. Just play like at the week-end, but with a full team, and we'll "do eet", maybe with time to spare, so that we can enjoy our visit to the Emirates. On the negative side, I was surprised to see, today, that we're top of the cards league. Don't know why I'm surprised, having seen every match, but I don't like to see us there. Also Riccy has the most individual card points, which is especially embarrassing, seeing how many matches (and therefore cards) he has missed.

We can certainly pick up plenty of points.
COuple of new faces now and I'm sure that 6 wins at the least is more than plausible!

Five wins and five draws from ALL of our remaining 17 games SHOULD be enough.

Agreed Dex. Mind you, this season, you never know what is going to happen. If we could have amassed another 3 points by now, we would look great!

at the start of the season you could say them are winnable games. but i cant see 8 wins out of 8 eithier. if we can pick up 5 wins and a couple of draws, afford a lose, we would be in a good postion. Add the hopefull points at West Brazil, Dull, Fulham away from home, we will be in a great position

We are lucky in the sense that January will be a tough month with some big teams which will be a good test for our new players. Then hopefully after that we would have found the right tactics go from potentially being bottom by Feb to cleanly out by May. I would prefer it this way than January's fixtures in May.

Newcastles fixtures are a mare at home. Arsenal,Man U and Chelsea to go there and a local derby with Sunderland.
They could be in trouble.

Newcastles fixtures are a mare at home. Arsenal,Man U and Chelsea to go there and a local derby with Sunderland. They could be in trouble. And Everton, who are excellent away. Four wins and two draws from the eight games would be a good effort. That would leave us needing 5 or so points away. As "winnable" as our home games are, especially given our record, the away games still look very difficult indeed.
