If we get three more decent players in the window I can see us getting a good few home wins and perhaps an away win or two as we do have a very reasonable run in. To be honest, after all the concern about our lack of prospects in January, I am starting to feel it may not be too bad a month for us in the league.

Well all our home games other than Man City are considered winnable so that's 7 then West Brom & Hull away are winnable & then try get as many draw's or more surprisingly couple of win's away against e.g. Sunderland, Fulham etc

The best thing about yesterday's result was that NOBODY got a more favourable result than us and we didn't lose any real ground. January is still extremely tough, but that is one game less and the gap we were expecting to materialise hasn't, as yet. Spot on Bogus, that was a massive result for us yesterday. Ordinarily I would normally want Wigan and Spurs to be a 0-0 draw today, as it would be better that only two points are taken from the game than three, in a match involving our relegation rivals. However I really do think that both teams have too much quality to go down, and I'm actually hoping for a Wigan win today. If we can get through January and have managed to have stayed out of the bottom three, I think psychologically then that will prove to be a massive boost to the players, giving them real confidence for the rest of the season.

The key will be creativity and finishing to unlock the 'winnable' matches.
This may be imported during the window a la Etherington, or depend on players returning to fitness a la Lawrence and Sidibe, or players getting their mardy arses in gear a la Fuller. I feel fairly optimistic that the resources will be there, and there are enough rubbish teams and managers to take points off.
BUT, If we'd won against either Fulham or Hull we'd be feeling pretty good now, as it is we have to prove we can win these easier looking games.

well looking at the home games
Man C Portsmouth Bolton Middlesbrough Newcastle Blackburn West Ham Wigan
looking pessimistically we should get 3 wins and 3 Draws
should get at least 2 points from Brazil and Dull away
35 pts and thats assuming we lose the rest of the away matches
which we probably won't
we'll be ok

so how many points do you guys think we will need to avoid relegation??? Traditionally 40 points is the safety target but it looked like it could be more this season at one stage. However we are now two games in to the second half of the season and several clubs are hovering around the 20 point mark. I reckon 40 will probably be ok but 42 will more or less assure safety. WE can definitely do that

A the start of the year I said, that with 18 games remaining, I thought we would need 5 wins and 6 draws.
Well we got one of those draws yesterday (which I wasn't expecting), so we've made a great start.
It's going to be tough, but it is achievable.

We are already 1 point better off than I thought we would be by the end of January, so all is fine today!
If we are within one win from safety come the end of January, or better still outside the bottom 3, I think we will stay up pretty comfortably providing injuries and suspensions are kind to us!
