Could I suggest that we stop feeding the arrogance of their "fans" by referring to Manchester United as "United" on here? There are a fair number of other clubs with the suffix "United", not just the one.

SPOT ON!
This really is a pet hate for me..in fact for the last few years I have just called them "Manchester" and if I ever hear someone talk about "United" I just go all blank and pretend to be confused about who they are talking about..unless I am actually in Manchester in which case its acceptable.
I know I have told this story on here before but it just shows the arrogance of their fans and how we should not pander to their superiority complex:-
I was on holiday in Mallorca a few years back and on the Saturday I popped in to a bar with Sky Sports on in time to get the footy scores. I am stood by the door watching the screen on the wall when this "dick" walks in and asks me "How have United gone on?" Immediately I twitch and my first reaction is that I want to twat him but I hold it together and simply inform him that they had drawn one each at Lincoln.
He looked at me as if I was a bit dim and hadn't understood what he asked so he repeated himself to which I said "Yes, pal one each at Lincoln, Torquay UNITED and Lincoln CITY one each.
He gave me another look that implied that he thought I was simple (that neccesitated me having to call on extra reserves not to twat him) before going on to the next person, where he asked exactly the same question to which unfortuneately he got told how Manchester had gone on.
