Well, we will never now if we could have managed to nurture his talent and develop him to a top footballer. We had him - he never played for us - now he's gone.

I'm rather amused by it really. How can a player who's never made an appearance for Stoke and was linked with a permanent move to Wrexham just a few days ago suddenly sign for Manchester United!

Its a joke, people who yesterday would have said he was shite are now saying he is one of the best young players in the league and the prem is his for the taking. Rubbish

it should be a concern to Stoke fans that the club is unable to nurture talented young players. Of course, no one can predict if De Laet will become a decent player. But my feeling is the coaching at our club is not up to premiership standard and young players are not progressing here. that might not bother the fans in the immediate future, but it means we are wasting a huge amount of resources buying in average players at over inflated prices on big wages, when we could be investing in young talented individuals and probably saving a lot of money in the process. How much would De Laet be on compared to Pericard for example? We will never know how good he should have been by this stage in his career.

If any of you went to the Reserves to watch him play would have seen a talented and promising young man.

For League 1 standard I agree Moorlander. Nothing better as of yet imo. Was decent but not better than that.

i dont care he has gone. I will be pissed however if his value suddenley becomes £10m upwards ,ie Ben Foster. A freind at work today said "Fergie doesn't buy many dudds " and i tend to agree it seems like we'll lose out on this one ,,And it is kind of knawing at me that we as a club seem to be acting as a feeder club of sorts for the shit ,,,,i fucking hate manure

He could have gone at the end of the season when his contract ends anyway, so it's probably better business this way as I don't think he would've chose us above Man U. We would've probably been stitched up by tribunal as normal.
Any way I can't remember anyone shouting his name from the hills when Griff got injured, so whats all the fuss about now?

He was at Royal Antwerp, United's feeder club, and had probably heard good things about him there. Contrary to popular belief, as good a manager as Fergie is, he, like any manager, has signed his fair share of lemons or players who didn't fulfill their potential. Look at Lee Martin.
