The approach that TP takes to most games is to make them ugly, which suits us when we have to adopt a siege mentality on a tight pitch at home to better teams. In this way, we will scrape the odd unexpected result against teams like Spurs and Arsenal (both who only had 10 men), and the odd 1-0 here and there in 'must win' games against the West Broms and Sunderlands.
However, when we have better players than the opposition, which we should clearly have against the Derbys and Hartlepools, we know of no other way to play which brings our players down to the same level as the opposition. We are far more vulnerable therefore to lose against lower division opposition than the rest of the teams in the Prem who play a more conventional style, and will beat them by playing football.
I am sure next week we will see a heroic, but ultimately in vain, performance against Liverpool, with Amdy Faye and Diao firmly camped in front of the back four, with the Whelans, Tonges and Soares banished to the subs bench as punishment proving Pulis right all along that such exotic players cannot be trusted unless he has no alternative.
