I was just contemplating have a significant bet on Stoke to beat Hartlepool and expected the price to be about 8/11 and they are nearly 6/4 on betfair and even money at the high street bookie.
Is it me or does this seem a massive price for a team playing in the prem against league 1 oppostion who lost at home last week to crewe 4-1. I know we are a bit light due to injuries but even the fringe players should be too good and will have a point to prove i.e. tongue, soares etc.
As always it's always advisable not to bet your own team but that surely is a great price.
Thoughts please and is there any teams news before i make my bet.
Cheers

I agree, they are great odds. I've put a tenner on us.

yep, even with pericard leading the line, you still have to fancy a punt at those odds, 5/4 with 365

Im still going to wait to see the team news. They have drifted massively on betfair. They have been traded at evens and are out to 6/4

Ladbrokes is 2.2 - 1 just had a tenna on us.
Cant believe those odds - PREMIER vs LEAGUE 1.
Even with the injuries.

would be worried if stoke play for the draw to get one of fullers match bans out of the way. 6/4 seems massive - maybe someone knows something.

Delap attacking midfield. That line up is wrong then.

You can't ignore an opportunity to take advantage of those odds. Even with injuries a Premiership team at 6/4 to beat a poor league one side is a gift. Having said that, this is Stoke we're talking about, so I'm not going too berserk.

ive just filled my boots with 13/10 with paddy power. cant refuse a price like that for a prem team, our midfield should have way too much for them

My £50 worth of bets with UnclePeter.com,
Whelan - 1st scorer £8 @ 16/1, Anytime scorer £8 @ 5/1 Tonge - As above Soares - As above but 18/1 & 11/2
Whelan 1st scorer & Stoke win 3-1, £1 @ 195/1 Soares 1st scorer & Stoke win 3-1, £1 @ 220/1
GO ON YOU MIDFIELD... ;D

Peterboro are 6/1 to beat WBA who will be fiedling an understrength side - they have also scored 9 goals in their last couple of away games (in total)

I'm tempted but I'm not going to. We sound like we're playing alright but if the score's still the same at HT or if we're losing I think we'll play for a draw to get Ricardo's ban out of the way. Too risky a factor as I think it's quite likely.

Well thats £100 ive blown. I should have listened to myself and when i said you shouldn't bt on your own team. Just think now this could be a slippery slide. How much did we need a win.

I always expected Stoke to lose today! Pericard is not a conference striker, never mind Prem!

You bunch of muppets!
The bookies can see a lot more clearly than you lot. What made you think we'd be interested in staying in this competition with a relegation fight on our hands???

rule no.1 in betting, if something looks to good to be true, then its fixed for it not to win.

You bunch of muppets! The bookies can see a lot more clearly than you lot. What made you think we'd be interested in staying in this competition with a relegation fight on our hands??? The reason for my bet was the following. Stoke have not won away all season and havent won for 7 odd games. This would have been a good platform to restore some confidence. Hartlepool are currently without a manager and have suffered some heavy home defeats. The last being Crewe who won 4-1 Stoke's fringe players have a lot to prove and would surely be too good for a team 40 odd places below them in the league ladder A good cup run keeps the interest in the players and is a welcome break from the pressures of the league. Winning is a habit regarless of who its agaisnt. And finally i doubt there is anyone who honestly thought stoke would be so poor. There should have been enough in that team to dispatch the pool even with preicard. As daft as it seems if the game was kickong off at 3pm i would still make my bet.

In your very persuasive arguments as to why this was a good bet, you forgot to mention that we have won one FA Cup tie away to League opposition in 38 years!
