pulis says that he will only consider players "of a certain type and character".
surely that must rule out anyone currently playing in a foreign league?

oatcakefanzine.proboards27.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Potters&thread=57195&page=1It makes you think what kind of character would be on the Pulis No-Go list. Coates said recently Pulis makes "half a million phone calls" before assuring himself a signing is the right type. That's presumably why he's reluctant to go abroad as he has no-one to give a reliable reference? To be fair, most of his signings always show the right attitude on the pitch and give their all, and I suppose there'sa difference between doing a few silly things off the pitch and being pretty much a good guy with a good attitude to football? I wonder how much of a complete **** they'd have to be before he'd cross them off his list? But you do sometimes wish we had a few arseholes with a bit more ability. whydelilah.co.uk/news/18_Dec_2008/Cash+available+for++right+players,+reveals+Coates.html “You don’t want people coming here thinking they are doing you a favour. They are the last players you want. “One of the things Tony Pulis is obsessed with is trying to find out the kind of person they are. “He makes about half a million phone calls and is very thorough.”

stubborn, small-minded and as good as admitting his limitations as a manager

I've got no problem with his thinking but then he chases players like Pennant who i like as a player but surely it would have taken no more than a couple of phone calls to find out some dirt on him.

It might be good if he put more faith in his strength as a manager to make people do what he wants and to make people behave. It looks, on occasion, like he wants to buy in the finished article without having to put any effort in.
That'd be OK if he got them (sometimes he clearly does), but too often he seems to spend so long checking his belt and braces that he has to make a last minute smash and grab and ends up being caught with his pants down.

The Pennant thing is amystery though, isn't it?
It's pretty much agreed that he was VERY, VERY interested in him. How does that fit in with his arsehole test?

Would that not include spunking them away on a striker he plays in midfield and two creative midfielders that he won't play at all??? Double Jesus
