Anyone else think after the Man U game that the pitch narrowing exercise had worked in terms of stopping the likes of Ronaldo - even if we still lost?
It was quite amusing to see the number of times the ball was played out to him and went out 'cos it was over-hit - leaving him flapping his arms in exasperation. ;D

I think its working. If you look at Griff at home compared to away. It seems to give griff them extra couple of yards to be able to compete at this level. Gives us the extra yards for Rory to drop the ball anywhere he wants in the box as well. A master stroke by TP me thinks.

The only thing is, every time we go away all the pitches are huge & so far we haven't had much success have we so maybe its also having a negative effect!

The Griffin example is a better one than the Ronaldo one, as Ronaldo prefers to selfishly cut inside and give the ball to the goalkeeper. In home matches, Griffin looks really solid, but in away matches a number of people remark that he looks out of his depth. Against Villa, the pacey Ashley Young got absolutely nothing down the right hand side and had to resort to throwing himself at the floor.

Personally, I would prefer to see the pitch how it used to be and the team on it that can play football rather than this way of compensating for a lack of skill in the side. When you remember what the pitch was like this time of year at the Victoria Ground, some of those players would have loved to play on a pitch like we have now without the down sizing.

I think it was a great strategy to compliment the way we play at home.... keeping things tight pressing teams and not giving any space.I think its a master stroke. It may well have affected out away form on bigger pithces but our dreadful away form has more to do with negative team selection

I dont like the narrow pitch - I prefer much wider
and we should train Rory to throw it further !
ps the new big screen isnt big enough either
the one at blackburn was MUCH better !
