I get the feeling that there was a similar question before one of the home games this season in the pre-match quiz in Delilah's - can't for the life of me remember the answer though ;D

came in the seventies i think it was summat to do with the boring boring arshole tactics of that era.
just think how bored you would be if everytime a defender passed back the goalie picked the ball up?
thats how it used to be back in the good old days.

I remember we got done against Tranmere when it was (re?) introduced. Cranny ballooned one up in the air and it was caught by our keeper. Tranmere were awarded an in-direct free-kick from which they duly scored!

Remember it well Cranny with back to goal i might add just hoofed a ball that spun over his shoulder heading for the topish corner and Prudoe plucked it out of the air to prevent the goal. I seen to remember that they won 2-1 and their winner looked way off side.

I can remember going to watch Stoke at Plymouth Argyle in 1992 and Stein scored a goal from a free kick awarded for a pass back to Plymouth goalie who inadvertently picked ball up. The free kick was within the six yard box. This was 1992 first season of modified backpass rule I think and score ended 1-1.

Correct mate, definitely off-side. Still pisses me off now! Yeh me too mate. We were certainly done (again!) by the officials that day and there were quite a few unhappy Stokies knocking about the streets after that match from my memory.

Was going to mention the Tranmere game- was ridiculous. Must have gone 15 yards in the air when ( I thought was Sinclair) caught it- complete mis-kick and how it was deliberate I'll never know.
Was late in the game and as you say was a goal about 10 yards offside that won it- even their player stopped at one point. Was a bit tasty at the the back of the Stoke end after that game I remember.
Of course not forgetting Kevin Keen's back-pass to Prudhoe at Huddersfield. Think we put about 15 passes together without them touching the ball and they scored!!!! Was bizarre- we were doing the 'OLE' chants.

Didn't Sheron get his first for Stoke at that game?
