Whilst I will be one of the last to critcise Mamas contribution this season (he's been a bit of a revelation for me), I've seen a few posts about new signings and whether a new player will be able to fill the 'Mama role'.
If we're looking to improve our squad to enable us to play more expansive, dare I say it, carpet style football, then is finding someone to continue this role in Mamas absence really a necessity? Or should we be thinking about wide players and poacher-type strikers as a better option?

Maybe if we started to pass the ball, use width and get crosses in we might not need to just pass it to the full back and hoof it up, therefore eliminating the need for someone in a Mama role.

I get very tired of watching the ball reach the half-way line or 20 yards short in wide positions and the ball getting thumped long. It too often comes back with interest.

we should be looking to get some pace down the flanks and getting the ball in the box and perhaps get our 5.5 million pound striker putting the ball in the back of then net instead of trying to squeeze whoever TP thinks may fit into the mama role. When fit and when at home that formation works. When away from home it is woeful.

That's a big maybe, has TP ever played anything but 4-4-1-1 with at least one player out of position? (except for that one away game at Watford)

Without question.
I still cling on to the belief that when Pulis brought Kitson to the club, he was intending on bringing in other players that would play to his strengths.
If this isn't true, and he did indeed buy Kits as a more effective version of Sidibe, then he deserves all the criticism he will eventually get for blowing 5.5 mil in such style.

If we are to stay up this season with Pulis' tactics I would be happy, if we continue to use them in what would be our second Premiership season I wouldn't, simple as.
First season you do what you can to stay in the league but after that you have to progress, pragmatism only gets you so far in football after which fans crave style and flair!

When at home indeed, but as Sidders says ...

I seem to remember another manager in our not too distant past thinking himself that clever about tactics not needing to be changed it turned out to be a debarcle. Right now TP has assembled what should be a decent squad but we have no pace we are shipping too many goals and not scoring enough from open play. If he thinks he can we can get to the end of the season hoping some team are going to ship more and score less than us then it is a worrying time ahead. This is a huge month we all know it and TP needs to get his head out of the sand thinking his "bunch" are going to pull him through and work like a bastard to get everything spot on. We have shown we can compete now go a step further and show we can compete in style too.
