A great thread & its hard to argue against most of it.
January is a massive month for TP. If nothing of note happens transfer wise and he continues with his stupid substitutions I fear he's going to be in for a rough ride.

Don't you think Pulis knows that - I agree with his comment about the supporters understanding and I for one (and I dont think I am alone) do understand.
Our first eleven is just about good enough to compete. Our squad is not. We have been very unlucky with injuries and I don't think any promoted club could compete with this level of injuries.
Lets not forgot who got us here and the fact that we have 20 points (same as M'Boro & Spurs who have both spent circa £100m + !!!)
Even if you dislike TP (and judging by the thread that looks the case) then I'm sure most agree he has a decent record in the transfer market. We clearly need another forward and an injection of pace.
West Brom / Wolves / Birmingham / Reading / Wigan etc. have all be evolving their squads over a few years.
Why do we think it will happen overnight ?
Pulis knows Cresswell, Pericard etc. are not good enough but that's all we have at the moment. If Kitson, Sidibie and Fuller were all fit and he'd spent £4m on another striker that couldnt get in the team then he'd be getting grief about that.
Football has become so short sighted (hence the ridiculous is this the lowest moment in our history thread !), lets step back look at the bigger picture and congratulate ourselves on making as much progress as any club in the country in 2008.
Then lets look at the fact we have the basis of a half decent squad, money to spend in Jan and a manager & chairman who are building for the future with the sole interest of making SCFC stronger.
There are plenty who would swop with us !

He feels they are good enough in comparison to what else he has available, and he's wrong.

"Pulis knows Cresswell, Pericard etc. are not good enough but that's all we have at the moment"
The whole point of this is that Pulis has known this for 18 months, so it's not an "at the moment" thing at all.
Plenty were saying we needed key areas strengthening right after the Leicester game, and did he do anything about it - did he f***. Sorry if the truth is too unpalatable for some Stokies.
We've wasted £15m on panic, rushed buys and are now suffering the consequences.

I would argue that Pulis' record in the transfer market is at very best average and a long way from 'decent' - that's one of the great Pulis myths

I bloody love this club and all I want is the strongest team we have representing us on the field.
I actually think we have a squad, even without another midfielder and striker, to keep us up.
Pulis' team selections are often so frustrating to the point of sending out an eleven that handicaps us.

POC, good attempt but those players have not been good enough for some time, yet they still scandalously get a game week in and week out in the premiership.
Pulis spent in the summer yet those he brought in can't get a game in front of injured crap players. As Tony keeps reminding us he will only bring in players better than what we have, so why the hell are they still playing or Pulis has publicly dropped yet another public bollock and can't be trusted with uncle Peter's money.
AS for the substitutions this has been going on for years and he has never been had the nous to change things quickly when required, out of his depth have been used quite regularly and they are spot on.
Yes Pulis got us up despite mistakes last year but, hey its a different scenario and challenge now and at present Pulis is fucking it all up for us all

Playing Cresswell I can live with because I know he,s shit but he will give 100% and chase lost causes etc. However to keep playing Pericard who can,t even be bothered to chase a ball 2 yards away is begining to wear me down. How can it make sense to play that lazy twat when you could put Tongue on who will at least give the defence an outlet and allow us to keep the ball in the oppositions half for a few minutes!!??

If Kitson, Sidibie and Fuller were all fit and he'd spent £4m on another striker that couldnt get in the team then he'd be getting grief about that. The frightening thing is, after spending £3.5M on two players who can play in wide positions but then refusing to play them, you can only come to the conclusion that Pulis does think Cresswell is good enough for this level. As for spending £4M on another striker, well we're only talking here about bringing in cover so we don't have to rely on Vincent Pericard. He didn't need to be a world beater. We're often told on here that TP will only bring in players better than what we've already got. Well if he couldn't find a striker for cover who is better than Pericard then it's a sorry state of affairs. To win promotion to the Premier League and then bring in only one striker (and let's not forget that Parkin left as well) and end up having that useless lump up front is nothing short of pathetic. Yeah, we've been unlucky with injuries, but that's part and parcel of football, and in a league where you're not allowed to bring in loan players, it was always going to be a risk signing just one striker last summer.

Perhaps Pulis doesn't think Cresswell's good enough as a winger at this level. Nonethless, whomever we sign, I bet he won't be far away from playing wide left for us (Greenacre probably wouldn't be). Watching Ronaldo on Boxing Day, it did cross my mind that even he might well not make Stoke's starting line up away from home under Pulis.
