Having watched yesterday's match for the first time this season i think we can stay up. All season I have felt our midfield has been completely shite and not up to the job.
I think Tony is a lucky manager and last season injuries to Ameobi and Griffin kept us up as they were forced to be dropped.
This season he has somehow happened to find a midfiekd that works.
Whelan and Little Faye are good enough at this level in the centre of midfield, yesterday prooved it, I don't want Diao getting anywhere near.
Pugh looked lively and having a left foot is decidedly advantageous. This position should be filled by either him or Tonge I think both are good enough.
Lawrence should play on the right. Delap should be moved to rightback.
We need to but two strikers in Jan and an additional Fullback. I think we'll stay up.
The key is to keep Diao Sonko Olly Cresswell and Periscope out of the team squad. I think all of the above have not stepped up to this level and should be sold.
Also yesterday I think proved Wilkinson can make it at this level.

Also yesterday I think proved Wilkinson can make it at this level. Are you on drugs?!!!! Wilkinson was poor last season in the championship, in this league he is awful he made three good tackles yesterdays the rest of his play was very poor!

I agree with a lot of that, Workingclasshero. Of the players at the club at the moment I think Lawrence, Am Faye, Whelan and Tonge/Puch is probably our best midfield. I also think Rory would do a decent job at right back - he's played there for his other clubs.
Not sure about Wilko - 90% of what he did yesterday was excellent. BUT mistakes (and he made a couple of bad ones) by defenders lose games and he remains a poor attacker at a time when attacking full backs are very much flavour of the month.

Yesterdays tactics work well against the big clubs at home, we allow them no width so they have to go through the middle, at which point we snaffle the ball off them and shut them down anytime they come near the edge of our box, how many times did Ronaldo drift inside only to lose possession ? ... but this doesn't seem to work against the lesser teams such as Hull/Fulham etc, and it doesn't work away from home because the bigger pitches allows teams to stretch us. Also, If we had Lawrence and Mama fit yesterday I reckon we would have pinched a goal and possibly have won the game, we really do miss Lawrences corners and free kicks ... hopefully he'll be back for most of the 2nd half of the season, and we start to score goals from corners again.

I don't thinkwere quite at the stage where we can hope for fast attacking fullbacks. (To be defensively sound and attacking we'd need serious cash) I agree that in the modern day game these have become possibly the most important players on the pitch for the good teams. Although these guys also happen to be pretty expensive. Also Liverpool are being successful without this particular dynamic.......
I just think that a lot of what Wilko did yeserday impressed me. He certainly didn't look out of his depth as some have done this season. (ala cresswell and sonko)
Anyway my point was I was impressed yesterday and there was a lot of positives to take. we had 5 first teamers injured!

unfortunately, when fit Diao will be straight back in the team (probably at the expense of Whelan)

I expected us to do ok yesterday...only chelsea have seriously turned us over at the Brit. Our home form is mid table and is likely to continue....our away form is bottom of the league and until we put in some decent away form and get results I wont share your optimism

unfortunately, when fit Diao will be straight back in the team (probably at the expense of Whelan) That will be a stupid move as Whelan has played ok and Diao hasn't. Tony loves Diao as he is our best midfielder by a long way, joke.

I came away with a different feeling yesterday. I fear that referees complete lack of consistency and biase towards the established Premiership sides could knacker our attempts to stay up. Foy yesterday was as bad as Styles - left me with a very negative feeling. Hope Im wrong but I get the feeling that the "Premiership" want us down by hook or by crook.
