Has he gone back to Preston then, I thought his initial loan had already ended and he was back at Blackburn

He's back at Blackburn and both Preston and Wolves want him on loan for the rest of the season.
Hughes again said he has a future at Rovers and may stay, but you've got to think they'd accept a half-decent bid.
Saying that, he hardly set the world on fire at PNE so perhaps TP has had a change of heart about him.

I thought it was six months from end of August 2007. Just a thought like, we know him, he knows us and a good fit.

I'm sure the (vast?) majority of fans would love him back, either on the left or upfont (or even as the creative CM we dont really have).
+ TP was on record @ the start of last season saying he was keen + we were supposed to be in for him as a loan @ the start of this season
however: Gally chose PNE & if he goes out on loan again he would presumably go there. Blackburn may prefer to either keep him or sell him in which case what sort of fee would they want? £1m,£2m?
not sure TP would see Gally as fitting in this side?,especially upfont.
perhaps Rudge will be pressing his case to TP?
gut feeling says he isnt coming here

I think that alongside Salif in the centre of Midfield Gally could be a major player at this level. He is forward thinking, has an eye for a pass, and knows where the net is. He's not a bad tackler either. It's whether he wants to play midfield though, and whether Tone could get past the idea of him being a winger.
To quote Kevin Keegan "I'd Love It" if he came back to Stoke!!

Have to agree Lord B.
He chose convenience (Preston) over any genuine attempt to make himself irreplaceable in a genuine promo chasing team (and thus potentially securing ano Prem deal elsewhere if needs be).
And, i also gather he ain't pulled up any trees this time at Deepdale.
One thing that doesn't "sit" was that most recently when we were "in" for him, he was thought to have opted for a role at Preston over us because TP wanted him on the left wing (again) and PNE offered him a central role up top. Nevertheless, I understand he still played left wing most recently there?
(Odd, 'cos PNE have no strikers at all .)
Football reasons my arris, he just didn't fancy the M6.

Do we really need to "get past the idea of him being a winger". He was awesome for us on the left and chipped in with plenty of goals, but didn't seem as effective on the few occasions he was deployed upfront. He's hasn't been prolific for Preston either has he?

He played a fair bit up front for PNE as well though didn't he, when he first went there, and still wasn't prolific.

Do we really need to "get past the idea of him being a winger Personally I think he can do a job in a few positions, including on the wing. But apparently he didn't come to Stoke because Tone told him he needed him to play on the wing a la Cresswell. central / attacking midfielder however might tempt him.

Been there, done that!
To be honest mate I was field based around the North West for about 10 years and that stretch of motorway aint that bad. Anyway, if we bought him he'd move wouldn't he. Don't Stoke have a club rule that players must live within 35 miles of the ground?

1 hour max if he does live on outskirts of Blackburn, but didn't Sparky say in press, just before Christmas, that he can't buy his way out of trouble and they'd have to sell before buying.

JAN 2 After admitting he is unsure whether he still has a future at Ewood Park, Gallagher has revealed he would be prepared to extend his stay with North End until the end of the season to play first-team football.
"It's in the hands of Mark Hughes," the 23-year-old told the Evening Post.
"I have got a contract at Blackburn. I will be going back on January 2, but I don't know for how long.
"I don't know how my future lies at the moment. I will just have to take each day as it comes when I go back there."
"But I just want to play football. And if that is not going to be at Blackburn, then hopefully it will be somewhere else – and that is including here as well. I am not one of those people who shy away from a challenge. I have helped Preston get in this situation because I have been here almost from the beginning of the season. And I am willing to help them get out of it.
"Of course I would consider extending the loan to help the team out.
"But if it is not to be then there is nothing I can do. That's up to Mark Hughes.
"If he says I can come back on loan, then I don't see why not. I'd love to stay here."
Gallagher could face a struggle getting back in the frame at Rovers after slipping down the pecking order this season.
After making 22 appearances for the Premier League outfit last year – 17 of them from the bench – he only made the squad twice as an unused substitute in Europe this term, before moving down the road to Preston at the end of August.
Competition for places up front at Ewood has been so intense that even a frontman of the quality of Jason Roberts has started only one Premier League match.
Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy, Matt Derbyshire, Maceo Rigters and David Bentley have all played up front.
JAN 5 BLACKBURN boss Mark Hughes insists he is reluctant to sell Paul Gallagher during the January transfer window.
The Scotland international, who could feature in today's third round FA Cup tie with Coventry City at Ewood Park, is being targeted by a club in the Championship after completing a successful loan spell with Preston North End.
But, although the 23-year-old's first-team opp-ortunities would appear to look limited at Rovers, where he is behind Roque Santa Cruz, Benni Mc-Carthy and Matt Derbyshire in the pecking order, Hughes remains a big admirer of the versatile striker, and he would only be willing to let him leave on a permanent basis if he felt it was in the best interests of the club.
The Rovers chief, who insists he has yet to discuss the possibility of selling Gallagher with the Rovers board, said: "I don't think we've come to that point, and we haven't had that conversation as yet.
"I've got a lot of time for Gally because I've got a great admiration for the skill and technical ability that he has got.
"I don't really want to allow that out of the club unless it suits my plans, and I'm able to look at situations that will benefit the club.
"So we are not really looking at that situation regarding Paul as yet.
"But the window is open so who knows what might happen.
"Teams look at players and think there is a possibility they may be able to get them out."
Although Hughes rates Gallagher as one of the most technically gifted players in his first team squad, that talent has not been enough to guarantee the former Academy starlet a regular start during the Welshman's three years in charge.
However, the Rovers chief insists that's mainly due to the calibre of players in front of Gallagher in the pecking order, rather than any deficiencies on the striker's part.
"In the early part of the season, we brought in Roque, and also had Benni, Jason Roberts and Matt Derbyshire as well, so that was the thinking behind letting him go out on loan.," said Hughes "We wanted him to play football and he's a guy who has had experience of going out on loan because he had a spell at Stoke (two seasons ago) as well.
"There's always that balance to be made when you send a player out on loan because, when they come back, they are always that little bit frustrated because they've got used to playing every week.
"So you always have to reassure the player that he still has a big part to play."

I'd be happy if he returned, he adds a bit of class and has a football brain ( not literally that would be absurd) , has pace too, something we lack, Pulis should tell him he will play him up front, give him a few games and then put him out wide stick in a 500k bid to test Blackburns resolve.

stick in a 500k bid to test Blackburns resolve. Serpico, i think if we faxed over a bid for £500k, you'd hear Mark Hughes ranting from S-O-T.
Either way, FM's snippets seem to suggest he's going no-where or, possibly, PNE.

Either way, FM's snippets seem to suggest he's going no-where or, possibly, PNE. Start low and increase the bid, no point in steaming in with a big price, imo Paul Gallagher is never going to be a regular at Blackburn, that should be obvious to him now, he needs to move on. Probably not us - but you never know?
Rovers pair targeted By Andy Neild
BLACKBURN Rovers pair Maceo Rigters and Paul Gallagher are both attracting interest as the transfer window deadline looms.
A club in the Bundesliga is keen to take the Dutchman Rigters on loan for the rest of the season, as the Lancashire Telegraph revealed last week, but they must first off-load a member of their own squad.
Several clubs from the Championship are also interested in taking Gallagher on a similar basis.
However, Rovers will only agree to loan out the young Scot if the Rigters deal falls through. advertisement

Mercifully, I've actually given up fretting on Gally, Whelan , Whaley, Parry, Dele, Tom, Dick and for that matter Harriet now.
I'm just going to cross my fingers and pray.
And while ano excellent spot grapey, I think it is clutching at a proverbial straw now.
Like this time last year, I fully expect the full force of "sorry, but we tried 24 / 7 & hey, there's always loans" type headlines from 'wor Tone.
