Swampy..with an equally 'memorable' response from the Stokies present
Also scored the winner at highbury on the opening day of the season 81/2 ..oh how we paid for that win

Yes down the side..always thought Chapman did ok for us in fairness..but he didn't half get some stick.. slightly more understandable when he moved to arsenal and then sheff wed, but still a bit OTT looking back at it
Mahoney one of my early favourites,, perhaps as he was an international , as he gave me some ammo to fight back with at school

Darel Russell was, but the Best Unsung Hero is either Rooster Russell or John Butler

Des Backos.
I saw what I think were his only two appearances for Stoke - consecutive away games at Cardiff and Southampton.

Cliff Carr making an unbelievable save at Elland Road, which was fantastic as he wasnt in goal. The most blatant handball ever,on the goal line to clear the ball. Oh how the Leeds balaclava clad idiots ranted....

Another vote for Steve Foley
Lee Sandford (as part of the Butler-Overson-Cranson-Sandford quartet that helped get us up in 93)
Calvin Palmer, not least for his header at the Stoke end off a Denis Violet cross that put us one up against Manchester United in 1967
Maurice Setters, who, on Boxing Day in 1965, when we were one none down at half time against Burnley, changed from centre half to centre forward and won us the game.
Peter Dobing, a gifted inside forward, for countless superb goals, especially for his hat trick against Leeds in 1968 and his last minute winner at Goodison Park in 1966.
Great days, and more to come.
Great thread for old farts with a laptop like me. Happy Christmas to all who contributed and toall users of this board.

Another vote for Steve Foley. I remember him dancing through the Brighton defence, on very wet day on the South coast, to score the late goal that broke the record unbeaten run, under Lou. Neil Aspin asked me to vote for him too

Need to take you back a few years ...gone but not forgotten and all that:
Alan Dodd
Jimmy Robertson (not so unsung at the time, but never remembered these days)
Harry Burows
More recently: Petur Marteinsson was a class player, a few injuries and caught up in all the political crap between club owners and different managers meant his time at Stoke was wasted

He sits in JSL and then goes to the main ticket office area and shakes the players hands saying well done whatever the score, every home game without fail.
