I know I sound like a stuck record, but why are we consistently (and I mean last season as well as this) so weak defensively when Tone's got the reputation of being a defensive manager? We make elementary errors week after week, we've only got one specialist full back (Griff) showing anything like Prem form when fit with Higgy doing a great job covering, out of a squad full of centre backs we've only got Ab Faye who we can 100% depend on (although Ryan's well on the way). Tone sets midfield out defensively week after week and that doesn't improve the disastrous GD, I could go on and on. We've got an excellent keeper in Soro and a very good standby in Simo so that's not the reason.
Defence is meant to be one of our strengths and instead it's our weakest spot, wtf's happening? ? I just thing we have a real tactical problem here.

Why can't we attack Sal?

eff, we might not be great at attacking but if we weren't haemorrhaging goals we'd feel a whole lot more solid. I thought the TP philosophy was build from the back, fair enough if it worked but that's just what we're not managing to do.

Bad buys like Cort and Sonko are part of the reason.

imo, because we need a settled back 4, we've found that shawcross and faye work well together, but yesterday the back four was a mis-jointed shambles- shawcross at RB? WTF? it was'nt ryans fault because at the end of the day he is a CB

Need a settled centre back pairing and as you pointed out yourself 2 fullbacks in the side every time we take the field.
The players also need an out -ball when we win the thing in our half. Without Mama, or Kitson who I'm sure can hold the thing up , we don't really have anywhere to go .

Why did we cock it up, yesterday?
We played a centre half at RB, for the first time, and Griff's absence was also the reason why Sonko was on the field at all. The real reason is not that Griff was injured, though.
Surely the original plan was to have Abdy and Higgy/Ryan in the centre and Griff at LB. Primarily, however, weren't we meant to have Davies at RB?!?
Unfit when he arrived and not played one game in the whole of the first half of the season, let's hope that TP does not bring in anyone else with an injury, next month.

The problem is a bit long term I think. We couldn't defend last season really. We conceded shed loads of goals particularly set pieces and at the back post. It needs sorting and I thought we had with Faye and Shawcross and then he got injured. That happens but the resultant deficiencies have shown us to be cack at defending.

Playing the likes of manure, l/pool and chelsea in the next few weeks will be a bigger test than the last few games have been.

IMO opinion we can defend
Look at the stats
Before yesterday (Blackburn) we had conceded 9 goals in 8 games, and that included a 5-0 drubbing at the theatre of twats
Take that game out of the equation, and we have actually only conceded 4 goals in the last seven games, before yesterday and excluding Manure
Our problem is scoring goals - we need to be more offensive, especially away from home

We just need to have a settled back 5:
Sorensen
Griffin Shawcross Abdoulaye Faye Higginbotham
also Sonko needs to be cleaning out the bogs, although he probably couldn't tackle them.
