Asked about this last year but didn't get much of a response so thought would try again. I remember a pre-season 4 team competition in the early 1980's that Stoke used to play in every season. It was mainly for reserve teams and usually it was Stoke,Derby,Leicester and Burton. The format was 2 semi's,a 3/4 play off and the final. The first game i watched in the Vase was at The Bass Meadows Fields Stoke City vs Leicester in 1980, 1-1 draw and Stoke won 9-8 on penalties.Steve Bould was marking Gary Linekar. We won it that year.Over the last few seasons i don't think we competed.Think we have been replaced by Notts County. Anyone else remember the Bass Chartity Vase? Is it still played for?
