still at Newcastle, has been out injured since september, should be due to return soon though, they tried to sell him on transfer deadline day I think, so they're probably looking to offload him in Jan ?

he's always been a player that puts himself about a bit, right up our street, imo could do the mama role well?
Good in the air, good touch, strong, good work-rate, premiership experience, stuttering career, newcastle looking to offload.
Could we afford him?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Smithyeah i think he may be to small for mama's role at 5ft 10" i thought he was taller than that, could still be a good signing though with him being able to play as a forward or midfeild player. i think it was fergie who bought him for his temprement & attitude to games when man utd went a bit shit a few years back?

Apart from the lack of height Smith could be a great signing for us and could transform the way we play, however you would have to assume that he'll be on £50K+ p/w at the Toon after coming from the shit, which probably puts him out of our reach to buy but a possible loan option could work well, letting him get in the shop window. The only stumbling block there is would Newcastle let him go out on loan to one of their rivals because even the most optomistic of Newcastle fan must realise they're in a relegation dogfight with us and about 10 others?!?!?!
