...this season?
Pulis has lost the only player who can make his system work and he now has at least three matches ( maybe more) before he can find a replacement
Two away games and one at home against a team who thrashed us 5-0 only a few weeks ago
Someone suggested Cort could be used (and it has crossed my mind) but although Cort can head the ball he doesn't have the pace, strength and control which make Mama such a handful
So what should he/will he do with the team over the next few weeks?

Big test for Tone yes BUT also a big test for the players. Too often managers get all the responsibility and players saunter about. Players have to rise to the challenge as well.

True Joe...
but what formation should he/will he send them out in to do battle?

451. But proper 451 that gets midfielders backing forwards up. I hasten to add that being a little Englander I'm a 442 advocate but we have no forwards to play. Cresswell and Pericard...they just aren't good enough.

Sad but true.

Grape... If I was a betting man then you are fave! Lets hope that we are pleasantly surprised I would like to see Soares play behind Fuller but Pulis will go with those he considers least risky - Cresswell

I've got a mate who is a Palace fan and he says Soares best role is holding midfielder.

If Serpico's formation was used then the ball down the channels is still an out which would be useful

I thought that Soares considered himself an attacking central midfielder - he did score a few goals?

On saturday we looked most dangerous when we got the ball in at fullers feet, those punts up field are pointless without Mama, and especially so when the other team has a 8 ft central defender gobbling them up , we should be looking at getting it in to fullers feet and bombing players forward around him, similar to how Hull use Marlon king.

Yeah.
I like the look of Serpico's XI. Square pegs in square holes, with the added bonus of no Winkle or Cressy.

Cort upfront? Only the most avid Pulis disciple would consider this as an option. We would be laughed at. We're so one dimensional, fans are considering a centre half for the focal point of our attack, because we we can't play any other way. IMO 4-5-1 is the way to go.

and Olli could take Delaps place
or thow on Pugh who has played well in the middle

TP is in a win win win situation here.
If we win then he has pulled off a massive coup with the injuries.
If we lose , look at how many of our first team were out.
If Periwinkle plays and scores it's a TP masterstroke for keeping hold of him and behold our new messiah Vincent P
If Periwinkle plays and doesn't score, he will have tried his best considering his lack of first team games.
THE BLOKE CANNOT LOSE EVEN IF WE LOSE.
So in answer to your original question, No I don't think it is his biggest test.

Yes Pugsley it was me I did mention it though I wouldn't consider it until late in the game. Cort doesn't have the control to do the job However for a late desperate assault I would throw him on - he definitely has an eye for a goal like his brother - as he showed last season

Has Pulis ever broke from his 4-4-1-1 formation ? Didn't he use it in that game against Derby when we won 1-3 ? 4-4-1-1 is like a religion to Pulis, I think we're going to see Cresswell again, for the almost 20k a week he earns, you would have thought he'd have buried at least one of the two golden opportunities he had against Newcastle and the one against Fulham,

OK
So how many points from these three games?
I would settle for two or three and be delighted with four
23 points from 20 games at the start of the transfer window

Massive difference using Cresswell rather than Mama - Perry might even be better
Surely he will look at other options this week

Some kind of strange 5-4-1/5-2-3 with Bothroyd and Cresswell wide, and 3 centre-halves. Having said that, it was a spectacular failure.

For me, it's nowhere near his biggest test ... is it anywhere close to the situation we were in near the end of 2002/03, when we were bottom of the league with something like 5 games left?
Is it bigger than the run-in last season to actually get here?
Too much is being made of this, I feel, a season does not hinge on Blackburn away in December.

AndI just say the part underneath your heading where you said "this season", so ignore me!! ;D

i think periwinkle needs a couple of games... a few seasons ago, i couldn't wait to see Mama out of the club. but now, i'm happy to say, he proved me wrong, and mama is one of the most important players we've got right now. i think we need to give vincent a chance. at least till we get zigic in january

Well for all the Pulis watchers it is an opportunity to see if TP really does have a plan B or will he cling to his trusty Cresswell
Of course plan B could follow with new players in January
And no - Blackburn is not make or break but it is a big shame we couldn't go there with our first choice attack and we will get stick if we save Ince - no doubt
