news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/7782380.stmWhen Ledley's agent spoke out about him going on a free transfer, it could just have been a ruse to get a transfer offer accepted in jan. The reason I think this is the kid probably would like to play at the top level but if they wont accept 6mil offer for him, maybe they will if they know he is happy to walk on a free. So come Jan they will be looking for fresh offers to make sure they get that all important cash.

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones knows he faces a battle to keep winger Joe Ledley.
Stoke City and Everton are among Premiership clubs chasing the Wales international and Jones said: "My chairman will be terrified if I go asking for money now.
"We’re trying to keep him (Ledley) but if the right price comes in for any of our players, we have to survive and that’s what I’ve got to work with.
"If we can do well maybe players will want to stay. We’re all aiming for Premier League football."
I dont think he will do alot for the club i think he will be a poor buy for us.

Is it only me who would like to spend that kind of money on a proven Prem player?

Is it only me who would like to spend that kind of money on a proven Prem player? Surely we can look to the future a little ... plus this lad is already good enough to get into some premiership teams now

No way is Ledley worth 6 million, nor will we pay that for him.

If he has the potential to be a Mark Chamberlain, then he is worth the money.............................

I have concerns about us signing Ledley. We need someone who can come in straight away and change things. I don't want a Tonge / Soares situation where TP buys a plyer in, and then takes weeks / months to get them in a position where he is willing to play them.
He might be one for the future, but I want our future to be in the premiership, so i'd rather we spent the 6m on a proven prem player.

For 6m I'd have major reservations, thats a awful lot to spend on a player who's never played at the top level, and who is also considered by some cardiff fans to be to slow even for the championship, imo pace is a absolute must when you sign any player in the premiership, it's what this league is all about.

Personally, i'd rather spend the money on Lallana, Surman, Pennant (Loan) & Manucho (Loan)
£6M for a one-paced, unproven footballer is a shit load of money fellas.

I agree way overpriced unless the 6 million includes certain specifications a la Kitson.
Won't lose sleep if Everton get him

Is it really so much to ask for someone who can run?
I'll be honest and say I don't know much about Ledley, I've never seen him play so I can't really comment. But he does seem quite highly rated even if it sounds like he's done nothing all season.
He's got to be better than Cressie though, but is he better than Tonge?

The only thing you have to worry about with your "proven Prem players" is....................will they come?
Personally I think that £6m is a lot for Ledley and a lot for Stoke to gamble on Ledley.

A fair chunk of the Cardiff fans don't seem to think he's worth 6.5m,or anything like it.
Based on that, he doesn't seem quite enough of a sure thing, when you're talking about telephone numbers-style transfer fees.

what would £6m get you elsewhere in England?
people have suggested the likes of Kightly who might be better but would cost just as much (& might not come of course).
Pennant - according to yesterdays rags wants to sit out his contract so he wont come in jan
£6m IS ahuge amount of money & of course a gamble but lets look at the postives: while Ledley is no Chamberlain (if only!) he is at 21 a fine prospect at both left midfield & centre mid,no pace but creative & seems to have a good eye for a pass. played well for Wales too & clearly a better player than Pugh or indeed anyone else we have to play left side.
Surmans a good player too & a lot cheaper (maybe we will buy both?) but Ledley is attracting the likes of Everton for a reason & thats beacuse he's a good player.
unless/untill TP looks to the foreign market then £6m for promising players is the market we are in.
proven quality prem players will cost a damn sight more more often than not & may be harder to attract.

i would much rather spend 6 mill on pennant and john walters than one unproven prem player, also i doubt we could get manucho on loan because fergie has already said no one is going out on loan. another good option would be vela but wenger would never loan him to us, so it looks like it's down to henri camara, harewood, and zigic but zigic would have to be on a 6 month loan with a view to perm transfer. we couldn't afford another big money flop.

£5-6 million is the going rate for the better players in the Championship these days. SO why do people constantly moan on and on about us paying over the odds for players?
The selling clubs have the power, they want to make as much as possible. So we have to pay the going rate or we will miss out

'The selling clubs have the power'
Not if the player is reluctant to sign a new contract they don't- could end up getting a lot less for him

One things for certain, we need to phase out Cressie as soon as possible and strengthen that wide left position.
If he'd come, yes £6 million is a fair enough price for a player who's caught the eye of the likes of Everton and after all it isn't our cash guys!

Its an inflated risk, but which would you prefer? A punt on a lower league player/players or some over rated/over paid Premiership reserve?
