Reports again today that west ham are going to offload him in jan, is he worth the gamble ? would he fit into our system ? he's a big lad, so height wouldn't be a problem.... many people would have advised us to steer clear of Fuller due to his knee injuries but he's been fine injury wise, and Pulis does have a fairly good record of rescuing strikers and turning their fortunes around.
And lastly, could we actually afford him ???

if we could get 20 -25 games a season out of him, i'd prefer him over zigic.

Yes i would have him... Doubful he would come for a sensible price! When fit - he could be lethal for us... and a local lad... so that could have some weighting!!

Dean Ashton would never play for Stoke. He fucking hates us.
And since when has Swindon been local?

He'd be brilliant but he likes the ball to his feet/chest like Parkin and like Kitson so he could fit our style if we didn't boot to his head.

H He might find us a bit more attractive now though, many players have pledged never to play for certain teams only to end up signing for them, Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith both publicly stated they'd never play for Man Ure. The more I think about it, the more I think he would be a good player for us, he's 6ft1 and is strong and good with the ball at his feet, him and fuller up front could be a decent pairing.

Serps-good with the ball at his feet-unless we changed and did that he would be crap for us.

RAF i thought Dean Ashton was brought up in Holmes Chapel. He was certainly with us around the age of 12 before he went to Crewe

I don't think anyone is going to pay more than 4-5m for him are they ? given his injury record anything above that would be silly and potentially throwing money away, but on the other hand, he could turn out to be a bargain, when he was fit and at the top of his game he was being touted as a 20m player and being linked with the likes of Man Ure.

To tell you the truth, I can't see why he would necessarily fair any better than Kitson in our present set up.
For me, the big money needs to be spent on players who can provide quality balls in to the forwards that we've already got.
Of course now that we're playing the likes of Cresswell and Pericard in the Prem, we certainly do need cover for our strikers, but IMHO it would be crazy to splash out the sort of money that would be needed to bring in the likes of Ashton, until we've addressed the far more pressing areas of our first eleven.

The Mama role that before and after him Kitson, Parkin, Ameobi, Iwelumo, Gifton and many more have been played in and then we still play like Mama is there! Dunna count on it!

And then when played up front scored a fair few goals.
TP has to look at the Mama role and realise that he can't mould strikers that hold up the ball with their feet into Mama. We did it with Parkin, we would just hoof to him despite the fact he wanted at feet and was too fat too jump!

More delusion from Stoke fans. A fit Ashton is a target for Spurs, Villa and the likes. We have less than ZERO chance of signing him.

Pugsley, you are spot on, christ who do we think we are. We all want the best players but it is not going to happen as yet. You need to establish yourselves in the prem before players such as ashton choose us especially when villa, spurs and god knows who else wants him

More delusion from Stoke fans. A fit Ashton is a target for Spurs, Villa and the likes. We have less than ZERO chance of signing him. Thats why we probably have a chance of signing him, because like Fuller, he's one of those players that top clubs won't sign due to his injury record, thats exactly why he might end up at a club like Stoke, ... I agree that if he didn't have the injuries we wouldn't stand a snow ball in hells chance, as it is, I certainly don't think it's delusional to think we might stand a chance of signing him, and we have the added bonus of being geographically close to his family, he's also 25 now, so he's not the young starlet that he used to be.

This fella is miles above our shopping list at the moment and if he is on our list we need a more realistic one. He's a quality player and if he could stay fit for than 6 months he'd be Rooney's partner in an England shirt everytime. In a different league to Heskey and as soon as he's available there will be much bigger fish than us after him.

Owen is 5ft7, he won't even be on Pulis' radar, might as well not exist at all, at least Ashton is over 6ft tall, so he ticks a couple of boxes -
6ft + : tick Injury prone : tick Black : Negative
