Just been listening to the Friday 5 live football show. they reckon Stoke should consider signing Owen, and the comment wasn't a joke . He's out of contract and they were saying that they doubt if any of the 'big clubs' are interested in him now, so, an ideal fit for Owen and Stoke. Sounds interesting. what does anyone else think.

i think the key word in your post was 'fit'.
imho, even for stoke, michael 'sicknote' owen would have about as much impact as demar phillips has had.
and he would still command a large wage.
STAY CLEAR TP!!!

agree with all of the above... but it would be a bit surreal if we could ever say "oh, Michael Owen plays for Stoke" , wouldn't it

He would be a great signing, really cannot see it happening though, his wages would be astronomical. He is deceptively good in the air as well, considering he's 5ft7, so he'd fit in the system His 1 in 2 goal ratio might put pulis off though

Forgot to mention the other comments' Owen would be able to take full advantage of all the 'flick ons' Stoke create, yes he has been injury prone but hes getting back to something like full fitness and he wont command the sort of wages that people think. Also for Stoke, its worth gambling to continue getting the money from being in the Prem agin next season

I would love it, but no way in hell would he come here, Villa Spurs Everton Middlesborough would all want a player like him. Newcastle still want to keep him.

You don't ask, you don't get.
Remember when Vale tried to get Robbie Fowler?
This would be nowhere near as stupid as that.

He's on £110,000 pw. Like he'd come to us. £110,000 x 24 = £2,640,000 add £2.5m fee that's less than we paid for Kitson.

IASU, are footballers only paid 24 weeks a year? And would it really only be for one season if so? Or am I just missing something blatantly obvious?

nooooo money could be spent better elsewhere. reaching the end of his carreer and he has lost a lot of his pace, he has been linked with a move back to liverpool which wouldnt suprise me. besides if we did try to sign him wouldnt our near neighbours ussurp us like they did with fowler? lol

At the right price Owen is a great signing. I don't think anybody can say otherwise.

Get real, people! There's plenty of middle-ranking clubs with outside chances of European football who stand a realistic chance of geting Owen. We're just not ready for a name and wages that big yet. I reckon Everton - he's a good replacement for Johnson whose loss they still haven't got over, and he's a bluenose at heart.
