.....only ONE-Pierluigi Collina, a ref not biased, doesn't mess about and isn't acting for the cameras. He isn't full of his own self worth and does his job properly without making anyone feel little. He is also damn consistent!
The point of this post, all referees are to55ers, bar Pierluigi!

Just the kind of post I was expecting! Just stating a fact, the standard is crap. Never been called a T**t before though, what's it feel like to actually be one Rex? If they start to do their jobs right, fair enough. Jon

Hmmmmm.
A two pronged debate. Beats Gudjon .... hero/villain? on the same thread as Hoekstra .... show pony/dutch master? any day.
Collina for me. Though I read recently that Verona fans absolutely fucking detest him.
Oh, and Rugby referees in general.

did anyone see that collina will have to retire next season as the rules in Italy say that all officials have to retire by 45 I did not know he was that old, he should just come to england and he can stay as long as he wants ;D

It applies throughout FIFA so he wouldnt be able to come here either.
and that my friend is why there is a shortage of referees. when Referees get to 40, if they have not made it to the top they give up, so considering many dont start until they have finished playing it is a ever shrinking pool

i did not ever think about that?

They normally give up, or become assessors ;D

So the ones who don't make it to the top become assessors of the ones at the top. Sounds strange to me, or were you joking, I couldn't quite figure out if you were or not ???

When I mean to the top, I mean FIFA list, but you also have to take into account that it is very political and the best very rarely get to the very top cos they wont bow down to the people that matter when it comes to progressing
read into that whatever you want

Oh rightio, I didn't want to make any statements without knowing if it was a joke or not.
By the sounds of it there seems to be a bit too much politics going around in a proffesion where it should be based on pure ability

I was under the impression (incorrectly perhaps) that referees in England could go on until they are 47?

Smudge, they can get an extension (its just been brought in) owing to the major shortage.
Hence my frustration on the referee thread I started about where would all these extra officials come from.
The game is in big shit

So in actual fact we could, at a stretch, get Collina here for two years!
I'd do it in a second... if he wanted to come that is!?

And this is where the politics would really come into play.
Even though I am classed as a senior Referee in Essex (which is one of the hardest areas to get promoted in) If I moved out of area to another county/country, I would have to be re-assessed so could quite easily go up or down in classification if that county FA decided as such.
And as Collina is a FIFA panel referee, they probably wouldnt allow him to come over

This about Collina is quite interesting. If he came over here we'd get to see even MORE that the standard of English referees is shocking, pi55 poor infact. I was watching the Villa V Arsenal game the other day, the commentators quote of "Rob styles will do anything to get in the picture" said it all. A bunch of self righteous, pig headed people who love the attention! If they were all like Collina we would be OK!

I think that what people are missing is that the premiership is a lot quicker that the league that he referees on, and in the European games it is nowhere as quick either, I would like to see him come over here to see if he is as good as people seem to think he is
