Are people going fucking mental? The number of times I've read this "is he good enough for the Prem?" drivel on here is frightening. Do people really think we're odds-on for promotion this year??? As it stands we have a squad that might make the play-offs. With two or three more additions we should defo make the play-offs. People dreaming of auto promotion make me laugh - do your memories not stretch back just one season??? For christ's sake. There's plenty reason to be optimistic at Stoke at the moment, don't get me wrong. But frankly if we achieve promotion this year it will be against all odds and a bit of a miracle. Signing players to keep us there? Let's cross that bridge when we come to it ffs. edit - oops just seen joethestokie's "let's get real" thread.

I don't agree that it will be a miracle if we get automatic promotion this season potterlog.
You'd put good money on West Brom going straight up, but who are the other candidates right now?
Watford? Five home defeats already and in danger of losing Marlon King...okay, they'll have money to replace him, but who will it be? Bristol City? Doing very well, a good bet, but if them why not us? Charlton? Very inconsistent, no better than us. Ipswich? Great at home, but haven't won a single away game all season. And the others? Wolves, Crystal Palace, Plymouth? Are they really any better than us?

There is nothing in this league for us to be scared of, We can beat them all home and away (although we wont). So why not be excited and aim for automatic promotion. Why would it be against all odds and a miracle? I dont think we are odds on for promotion and neither do i think anyone else supporting Stoke does. But what most of us do think is that promotion is definately within our grasp, be it automatic or through the play offs, so why are we mental thinking this? I dont think our squad are good enough for the prem, maybe 2,3 or 4 players are, but that can be said about the rest of the clubs around us at the moment, changes will have to be made but we'll cross that bridge when (and not if) we get there.

Blimey, a positive post from Davef! Nurse, where are my smelling salts? I shall be lying down in a darkened room for a while.

we need to sign players to get us up first
then we can have a massive overhaul and keep our best players and bring prem players in

Exactly - we've got to worry about getting there first. People are talking as if promotion's guaranteed.

I also think we have a great chance of going up
BUT as I have posted on other threads. It was the club that started this "looking for players who have the quality to keep us in the Premiership" trend. It was TONY who said on the radio that we were planning so that if we go up we don't do a Derby.
One can speculate at the reasons that the club released these comments, but don't start pointing the finger at folk when they raise questions about it.
